What are the responsibilities and job description for the High School English Teacher position at Immaculate High School?
Qualified high school teacher needed to teach AP Language & Composition course and English II Honors course. Students required to take AP exam. AP students learn to describe language through discussion of rhetorical strategies and terms, demonstrating a working knowledge of parts of speech, structural patterns, awareness of connotation and shades of meaning in context. Attention will be focused on models from major American literature selections. Workshops will be used to develop additional skills required on the AP exam and to provide students with a more intensive writing experience.
The English II Honors course is an accelerated two-semester course that consists of in-depth analyses of challenging classical and modern readings. Students examine textual and supplementary examples of short story, poetry, drama, non-fiction, novels, and medieval legends. Expository writing and the writing process are emphasized, complemented by extensive vocabulary study. The students read independently and produce several small papers and one comprehensive research paper. Critical thinking skills are emphasized in preparation for the PSAT, ACT, and SAT. Additionally, there will be training in standardized test-taking strategies.
Candidates must have demonstrated effectiveness at teaching both in-person classes and online classes that incorporate synchronous and asynchronous instruction.
Ideal candidates are expected to have a minimum of two years of teaching experience.
