LENGTH OF POSITION

This is a Seasonal position for our Swim program which is expected to end on August 29, 2024.

 SALARY DESCRIPTION:

• $18.50 - $22.00 per hour during group swim instruction
• $16.00 per hour for non-instruction time

JOB SUMMARY:

Be a part of our new Swim Lesson Program that will provide our members of all ages swimming and water safety instruction. In-Shape Swim Instructors will plan and deliver age-appropriate and skill-focused lessons based upon participant abilities. The right individual enjoys working with people, is patient, inspiring and motivating.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES – WHAT YOU WILL DO:

• Must be able to teach their own classes to the standards set forth by In-Shape
• Maintain a safe environment through correct implementation of safety policies and procedures
• Engage appropriately with swim participants of all ages
• Effectively communicate with participant parents
• Complete program session trackers and distribute to participants/participant parents
• Enforce and notify management regarding safety standards and identify potential hazards of the facility
• Monitor and report equipment issues
• Enforce all pool rules, regulations, and program standards
• Advise Manager regarding any need for discipline or ejection of member(s) from pool facility
• Complete all records and reports (Member Incident Reports) as required
• Help keep pool deck and facility clean
• Assist in building our In-Shape community of members through a consistent member experience
• Perform additional duties and responsibilities assigned

Requirements

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS – HERE’S WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

• High School diploma or GED
• Minimum 18 years of age, or have graduated High School or equivalent certification of completion, due to insurance requirements in our clubs
• Current lifeguard and Basic Life Support certifications preferred; or must successfully complete In-Shape’s Lifeguard Training Program (required to pass a basic swimming test (300 yard swim; 2 minutes treading water; 10lb. brick retrieval at 7 foot depth); demonstrate rescue and lifesaving skills in (2) simulated emergencies; and earn an 80% or better grade on a written examination)
• Pass a basic swim assessment will be required as part of the hiring process
• Must be able to work mornings, evenings, and weekends; based on swim class schedules
• Previous experience helpful but not required
• Strong customer service skills working with children, adults, and seniors
• Flexible/positive attitude in meeting and exceeding our members expectations
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, work well under pressure and time constraints and displays positive behavior in all member interaction – from youth to senior
• Able to follow written instruction and complete basic forms
• Current CPR or ability to pass CPR certification within 60 days of hire date
• Bilingual skills a plus
• Attend In-Shape team meetings and trainings as required
• Must be Trustline registered; In-Shape will facilitate this upon acceptance of offer of employment or upon reaching the age of 18 if under the age of 18 the time of hire

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the team member is frequently required to walk and stand up to 8 hours/day; sitting is seldom to occasional. Team members may be exposed to cleaning chemicals or airborne particles and will be required to wear designated PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) as directed. Team members are occasionally required to use hands and fingers for handle or feel; occasional reach, push and pulling with arms and hands; occasional climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; and occasional reach and twist, including side-to-side movements. The team member may be required to occasionally lift, carry or move up to 25 pounds and may seldom be required to lift, carry or move 26-50 pounds.

During the COVID-19 pandemic: All In-Shape Team Members may be required to assist with greeting members to perform temperature checks and health screens, ensure members practice physical distancing and monitor cleaning of equipment after each use. Detailed instructions will be provided at time of hire.

In-Shape Team Members will be required to comply with company policies regarding the use of PPE (personal protective equipment), by following instructions and outlined safety guidelines, to protect our team and club members. Club Safety training and equipment will be provided. Team Members are to report to management, or designated team member, any safety risks or potential risks identified in the work environment.
