Job Summary:

The IHCC Industrial Maintenance and Community Colleges (IMCC) project director will be responsible for implementing and managing IHCC’s portion of a four year federally-funded grant project that was awarded to a consortium of three Iowa community colleges. The project focuses on integrating Competency-Based Education (CBE) into the Industrial Maintenance diploma and HVAC diploma programs and improving enrollment and completion rates among underrepresented populations in these programs. In addition to overseeing the implementation of the project, the project director will assist with recruitment efforts and advising students enrolled in the target programs. The IHCC IMCC project director will work closely with the Industrial Maintenance and Community Colleges consortium director based at Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) and will meet quarterly with the IHCC Grant Monitoring Committee.

Minimum Job Requirements:


  • Bachelor’s degree required. Masters degree preferred.
  • Three years relevant work experience required. Three years educational experience preferred.
  • Must have strong leadership skills, communication skills, and administrative abilities.
  • Must relate well with people and have good organizational skills.
  • Must be able to manage grant activities in support of grant objectives with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to compile data and information and write reports as required for grant activities.
  • Should have familiarity with advanced manufacturing and should remain professionally current.
  • Must be able to establish priorities and maintain focus through completion of projects.

Work Performed:


  • Coordinate with IHCC Industrial Maintenance and HVAC faculty, the dean of career and technical education, partner college staff and the consortium director at DMACC to integrate CBE into the industrial maintenance technology and HVAC diploma curriculums at IHCC.
  • Assist the IMCC success coach/lab assistant with recruiting and retaining new students into the Industrial Maintenance diploma and HVAC diploma programs, with a focus on minority and low-income students.
  • Provide academic advising as needed to participants.
  • Connect participants to internal and external resources as needed to help ensure their success in the program.
  • Assist in the placement and follow up of graduates from the target programs.
  • Coordinate project marketing efforts with IHCC’s Marketing Department and the DMACC consortium director.
  • Prepare and submit all necessary programmatic reports to DMACC.
  • Work with the controller/grants accountant to submit financial reports and requests to DMACC.
  • Work with MIS to develop a system in Blackboard for the completion of CBE assessments.
  • Work with the DMACC consortium director, MIS and the Institutional Research Office to develop of a tracking system for participants that meets all of the grant’s required reporting metrics.
  • Work collaboratively with the director of grant development & compliance to implement project activities and monitor progress towards meeting goals.
  • Use a budget tracking tool to monitor project spending on an ongoing basis, ensuring costs are reasonable, allowable and allocable and in line with institutional and federal requirements.
  • Participate in Advisory Committee meetings twice a year for the Industrial Maintenance and HVAC programs.
  • Participate in any required statewide Industrial Maintenance and Community Colleges: A Pathway Forward Consortium meetings and activities.
  • Participate in project evaluation activities as required and requested by the DMACC consortium manager.
  • Coordinate with appropriate IHCC staff and departments to complete purchase requisitions for the project.
  • Coordinate with employer and workforce system partners included in the proposal.
  • Foster and develop additional industry partnerships, including promoting CBE to regional employers.
  • Meet regularly and as needed with the dean of career and technical education and associate dean of advanced technologies.
  • Maintain regular and consistent attendance at work.
  • Assist in planning and carrying out studies and surveys.
  • Maintain cooperative relationships with professional personnel, local organizations, public officials and other interested people.
  • Assist in maintaining public relations with the local community and take part in community relations when possible.
  • Represent the College in the most positive manner with prospective, former and current students, clients, suppliers and the community.
  • Maintain an awareness and understanding of state and national workforce issues, challenges and opportunities.
  • Manage multiple tasks and initiatives simultaneously.
  • Monitor expenditures and budget status.
  • Other duties as assigned.

9 hours/day, Monday - Thursday

Salary Range:
$55,374.00 - 60,329.00
