Position Summary:


The Museum Educator is responsible for developing and delivering engaging educational programs and activities for museum visitors and school groups. This position focuses on creating culturally sensitive learning experiences that highlight Pueblo arts, history, and cultural practices. The role emphasizes direct interaction with visitors and program facilitation rather than administrative or managerial duties.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:


• Develop and implement educational programs and presentations for diverse audiences, including

school groups, families, and the general public.


• Utilize the Indigenous Wisdom Curriculum and museum resources (exhibitions, collections, archives)

to create culturally relevant learning experiences.


• Deliver public programs and guided activities that foster understanding of Pueblo arts and cultural

traditions.


• Coordinate logistics for scheduled programs, including preparation of materials and communication

with visiting groups.


• Ensure cultural sensitivity and accuracy in all educational content.


• Assist with program evaluation through participant feedback and observations.


• Collaborate with museum staff to support special events and community engagement initiatives.


• Maintain a professional and welcoming environment for visitors.


• Perform other duties assigned to support educational programming.


• Occasional evening and weekend work may be required.


• Performs other duties as required.


Required Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the experience, education/certification, knowledge, skills and/or ability needed. Reasonable adjustments or substitutions may be made to assist with performing the essential functions. An equivalent combination of training, education and experience may be considered.


• Must be 18 years of age or older.


• Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screen and background

investigation. Native American preference will be given.


• Bachelor's degree in Education, Museum Studies, Native American Studies, or related field.


• At least one year of experience in a museum or educational setting with direct guest interaction.


• Strong knowledge of Pueblo history, traditions, and cultural values.


• Strong communication and presentation skills.


• Strong ability to work collaboratively and independently.


• Knowledge of Pueblo history, traditions, cultural values, and contemporary life.


• Ability to create culturally sensitive educational programs that highlight Pueblo values, traditions, and

cultural aspects of both historic and contemporary life.


• Ability to work collaboratively and in a sensitive manner with Native Americans.


• Ability to communicate effectively in the English language both verbally and in writing.


• Ability to work collaboratively and independently.


• Must be self-motivated with strong organizational skills.


• Awareness of and ability to learn accepted museum standards, strategies, and ethics.


• Ability to handle multiple tasks in a regular work week and meet assigned deadlines.


• Knowledge of customer service techniques and ability to respond to difficult inquiries while

maintaining positive demeanor.


• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite Word including Word, Excel, etc.
