What are the responsibilities and job description for the General Maintenance position at Industries of the Blind?
SUMMARY OF POSITION: The General Maintenance Worker will perform general maintenance and repairs for assigned equipment and facilities including plumbing, electrical, basic carpentry, heating and cooling, and other building systems as well as general janitorial tasks.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to follow instructions from supervisors, senior maintenance workers and senior management
- Experience in basic carpentry, electrical, plumbing, heating / cooling systems and warehouse racking, Minimum 2 years’ experience
- Ability to use hand tools and power tools
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Very detail orientated
- High School Diploma or equivalent, degree or trade school preferred
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving history
DUTIES:
- Inspects and identifies equipment or machines in need of repair.
- Troubleshoots issues to determine necessary repairs.
- Plans repair work using building’s blueprints or equipment manual as needed.
- Performs general repairs that do not require a specialized technician. Examples may include repairing drywall, painting, and repairing doors and other building fixtures.
- Performs basic plumbing (e.g., repair toilet), electrical (e.g. install new outlet), and HVAC work
- Performs routine maintenance on building systems.
- Cleans and assists with upkeep of the facilities.
- Performs general janitorial work, such as wipe down of facility, cleaning of equipment, cleaning of breakroom, etc.
- Orders supplies and materials needed for repairs and maintenance.
- Actively engage with blind associates to improve functionality of systems and remove barriers for blind associates.
- Able to drive to pick up supplies or temporarily assist in another IOB facility
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
