Infrastructure Consulting & Engineering, PLLC (ICE) is actively seeking a CEI Inspector to join our Construction Engineering & Inspection (CEI) team in West Columbia, SC office. Once qualified candidates have been identified, you will be contacted by the recruiting team for the next steps.
Position Summary
This position is responsible for the monitoring daily activities of asphalt, concrete, and earthwork for conformance of client/contractor work on various projects to ensure materials meet specifications. Position will perform engineering inspections activities such as construction observation and field sampling of asphalt, concrete, and earthwork for construction application. The inspector will record daily notes for engineering staff.
Position Responsibilities
- Ensure all materials, procedures and safety rules comply with the latest SCDOT standards
- Sample and test construction materials to ensure they meet quality requirements of the project specifications
- Material sampling of concrete, asphalt, earthwork, and aggregates
- Recording Daily Work Reports to include quantities in Site Manager or AASTHOW are for projects
- Interact and communicate effectively with colleagues and client representatives
- Attend meetings and interact with client and third-party personnel
- Must use diplomacy in difficult and stressful situations
Qualifications and Requirements
- HS diploma or equivalent required
- Associates or BS Degree in Civil Engineering or Survey preferred
- 2 or more years of highway construction or asphalt plant experience preferred
- SCDOT Earthwork, Concrete and ART (asphalt roadway) certified
- Must have math calculation skills, MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) experience
- Strong written and communication skills required
- Current driver’s license with good 3-year driving record is required
Physical Demands
This position requires minimal lifting of up to 50 pounds on an infrequent basis. The inspector must be able to travel and tour work sites under adverse environmental conditions not limited to loud noise levels, high dust and dirt, and extreme temperature. The inspector must be able to visually examine construction materials and finished structures.
Expected Hours of Work
This position will be a full-time position. The inspector may be required to work some nights and weekends based on the project construction schedule. Inspectors will be eligible for preapproved overtime at time and a half.
