Folder Gluer Operator
Overview:
The Folder/Gluer Operator will be responsible for operating and monitoring equipment for relevant stages of production. Must be able to perform all essential functions of this job with or without reasonable accommodation.
*This is a full-time position and wage is commensurate with experience and knowledge*
Job Duties and Tasks:
Essential Job Functions include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- MUST have 3 years’ experience of setting up straight line boxes, auto lock boxes, 4 corner boxes, sleeves, back folding and more, as well as feeding the machine.
- Ability to Proofread job tickets to determine requirements to set up and run jobs.
- Ensures all DMS checklists and documents are filled out completely and correctly.
- Monitor supplies and ensure enough inventory to prevent stoppage of production.
- Maximize the utilization of equipment by operating the machinery at available capacity and speed to ensure quality and efficiency.
- Perform set-up and quality checks and adjust equipment, as necessary.
- Provide basic maintenance and upkeep to equipment, as necessary.
- Operate folder machine to fold printed materials according to specifications and different types of materials.
- Achieves production goals for waste, output, and make readies on the machine.
- Continually monitor machines and correct problems as they occur.
- Coordinate the loading of machinery and the packaging of product. Communication with the feeders and packers.
- Verify counts and ensure jobs are completed prior to breaking down equipment.
- Monitor box / folded materials for quality, including, but not limited to check products for non-conforming issues (glue, folds, bad scores, cuts, poor prints etc.) make necessary corrections.
- Troubleshoots gluers and other applicable production equipment as needed.
- Complete necessary reports in an accurate and timely manner.
- Be proactive in the maintenance of equipment with supervisor.
- Package finished products and prepared them for shipping or distribution.
- Possession of the following competencies: accuracy, reliability, decision making, time management and self-motivation.
- Possible Cross-train on other machines.
- Responsible for product safety and product quality, and reports product safety and product quality problems to Senior Management or Quality Manager.
Mathematical Skills:
- Able to read a tape measure with speed and accuracy.
- Able to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages, measurement, volume, and rate.
- Basic math skills for measurements and calculations.
- Ability to apply understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or graphic form.
- Ability to deal with problems involving one or more concrete variables in standardized situations.
Physical Skills:
- Close Vision – clear vision at 20 inches or less
- Hand/Eye coordination – ability to guide the hands with the eyes.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- The employee must have ability to stand and regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
Work Environment:
- Ability to stand in a single location for 8-10 hours per day.
- Ability to lift anywhere from 5 to 50 pounds material substrates as required per work order.
- Flexibility with work hours (must be able to work overtime as business needs dictate).
- Ability to work in a loud shop environment with multiple machines in operation at the same time.
- Ability to work independently and with other team members.
- Ability to operate high-speed equipment at designated production run speeds.
- Ability to manage computer programs for tracking workflow in production.
- Adheres to production schedule.
- Comply with all company policies and procedures, including safety and maintaining clean and organized work area.
- Helps develop safety rules, procedures, and proactive measures to ensure a safe working environment. Responsible for the safety and well-being of self and employees.
- Reports all near misses, incidents, first aid rendered, or unsafe working conditions to the Plant Manager and Safety Manager immediately. Proactively identifies and removes hazards.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma.
- Willing to work overtime as needed; may be required during busy periods.
- 3-year manufacturing experience with operating folder/gluer equipment is required.
- Communication Skills must be able to read work orders, convert fractions to decimals to metric as needed and review production needs with co-workers.
- Able to read and follow instructions on factory masters.
- Must have reliable transportation.
- Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Required) Shift availability.
