Electrical & Instrumentation Technician I:
Under direct supervision, assists higher-level staff in a wide range of electrical system and process control instrumentation system maintenance duties and performs semi-skilled electrical and instrumentation maintenance and repair work; and performs related duties as assigned.
Electrical & Instrumentation Technician II and III:
Under general supervision, performs a variety of skilled technical duties in the construction, installation, testing, calibration, maintenance and repair of electrical systems and process control instrumentation systems and related equipment, including motors and machinery ranging up to 12,000 volts, as well as complex instrumentation, communication and computerized control systems used in the production, treatment, storage, transmission and distribution of water, wastewater, recycled water and composting; and performs related duties as assigned.

Electrical & Instrumentation Technician I:
An Electrical & Instrument Technician I perform entry-level work in the electrical and/or process control instrumentation trade while under the direction of a journey-level technician. Incumbents must gain proficiency and attain the skills necessary to function at the next higher level while providing semi-skilled electrical or instrumentation work. This class is alternately staffed with Electrical & Instrument Technician II, and incumbents may advance to the higher level after gaining experience and demonstrating proficiency that meet the qualifications for the higher-level class.
Employees in this class typically report to an Operations, Maintenance, Compost or Facilities Program Supervisor.
Electrical & Instrumentation Technician II:
Electrical & Instrumentation Technician II is a skilled journey-level class in this class series. Incumbents perform technical, journey-level duties in the area of electrical system and process control instrumentation installation, testing, maintenance and repair. All incumbents use predictive maintenance tools including motor circuit analysis (MCAs), ultrasonic and infrared cameras and other predictive maintenance tools. This class is alternately staffed with Electrical & Instrumentation Technician III, and incumbents may advance to the higher level after gaining experience and demonstrating proficiency that meet the qualifications for the higher-level class.
Probationary Period: 12 months
Electrical & Instrumentation Technician I:

Electrical & Instrumentation Technician III:
Electrical & Instrumentation Technician III requires journey-level knowledge to maintain both the electrical system and process control instrumentation system and associated equipment. Incumbents may also provide work guidance to lower-level staff.
Employees in this class typically report to an Operations, Maintenance, Compost or Facilities Program Supervisor and provide lead work direction and guidance to Electrical & Instrumentation Technicians.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE:
Electrical & Instrumentation Technician I:
Electrical & Instrument Technician I – Graduation from high school or GED equivalent and enrolled in an accredited vocational trade school.
An Electrical & Instrument Technician I may be considered for advancement to Electrical & Instrument Technician II after demonstrating proficiency to perform the full range of duties of the latter class, which includes competency in the maintenance/repair of either electrical or process control systems and obtain an International Society of Automation (ISA) Control Systems Technician Associate or an approved alternative. Proficiency criteria and the process for demonstrating performance at the levels established in the criteria are established jointly by the hiring authority and the Manager of Human Resources and are described in a separate document.
Typically, an Electrical & Instrument Technician I is expected to be capable of meeting the proficiency criteria within a 12 to 24-month period, depending on an individual's prior experience and progression in performing the full range of Electrical & Instrument Technician II duties as described in the established performance criteria.
Electrical & Instrumentation Technician II-III:
A typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills and abilities outlined above is:
Electrical & Instrumentation Technician II – Graduation from an accredited vocational trade school, and two years of sub-journey to journey-level experience in the design, installation, maintenance, and repair of complex electrical systems and/or process control instrumentation and related equipment and devices common to a large water works system; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
An Electrical & Instrumentation Technician II may be considered for advancement to Electrical & Instrument Technician III after demonstrating proficiency to perform the full range of duties of the latter class, obtaining the specified licenses, certificates and special requirements of the Electrical & Instrumentation Technician II class as described in the General Unit Memorandum of Understanding.
LICENSES; CERTIFICATES; SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
A valid California Class C driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under the Agency's vehicle insurance program.
