What are the responsibilities and job description for the Line Operator position at Innovative Freeze-Dried Foods?
Summary
The Line Operator is responsible for running the production line. He or she also works closely with the Production Supervisor and Production Manager learning how to ensure line efficiency and that all quality, safety and GMP standards are consistently upheld by the line workers during operation. The Line Operator will work to immediately bring all production line issues to the attention of the Plant Manager for resolution or escalation.
Job Responsibilities
Quality Assurance
- Works closely with Quality Assurance staff to ensure product quality
- Ensures all codes on product are correct
- Continually monitors fruit and packaging quality
- Ensures that GMPs are followed at all times
Pre-Production
- Visually inspects all equipment for cleanliness and operation
- Install all necessary equipment guards and slides
- Starts all necessary equipment
- Resets bag and box counters
- Calibrates scales
- Starts metal detector, checks operation
- Sets codes
- Makes sure all production workers are properly placed and ready for shift
- Makes sure all tools and chemicals are properly stored and locked
- Ensures production line is set up and ready prior to running.
Production
- Validates incoming product before it is run
- Oversees dumping, inspection and packing of product
- Is in constant communication with Quality Control department to assess quality and package weights
- Is in constant communication with maintenance reporting equipment performance issues.
- Works with inspectors and monitors sort-outs
- Constantly checks code placement and clarity
- Keeps a clean and safe production facility
- Validates packing before it is placed in production
- Is responsible for final finished product quality
- Works closely with Production Manager to handle any problems and make any decisions regarding quality
Post-Production:
- Inventories, Labels, and records unused fruit at the end of each day
- Records all packaging and supplies used
- Makes sure sort-out / crumbles are labeled or weighed and recorded
- Instructs clean-up personal of any special or specific cleaning instructions
- Puts any tools or shields back every time
- Ability to help with trouble shooting equipment and help with repairs when needed
- Help with preventive maintenance
Minimum Qualifications
- One (1) to two (2) years’ experience in production work, or other manufacturing experience is preferred.
- Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written) with diverse populations.
- Bilingual (Punjabi/Spanish/English) is preferred
- Experience operating forklifts and other small equipment. One (1) to two (2) years’ experience is preferred.
- General computer skills - Microsoft Excel and other Office programs and cloud-based management software.
Working Conditions
Frequently works near moving mechanical parts, in extreme cold (non-weather), in wet or humid conditions (non-weather), near vibration, or in outdoor weather conditions. Works in loud to very loud noise.
Physical Demands
Frequently lifts up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds or more. Frequently required to walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, or talk or hear. Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
