Job Summary

Lead Speech-Language Pathologist (“Lead SLP”) to provide quality care to our patients. Lead SLP evaluates and treats patients, communicates with their families, physicians, and other health team members, maintains all necessary documentation of services in the patient’s medical records, and coordinates patient discharges. Treatments will include training in daily living activities, functional skills, motor development, compensation techniques, use of adaptive equipment and splinting. Lead SLP will also test and evaluate patients’ physical and mental abilities, analyze rehabilitation goals and consult with the rehab team in order to coordinate the most effective physical therapy program.

Responsibilities And Duties

Essential Responsibilities and Expectations

  • Evaluate patients promptly, and within Company policy and expectations, upon receiving physician referral for treatment.
  • Provide differential diagnoses for patients with speech and language disorders and swallowing disorders.
  • Develop effective treatment plans and obtain approval for services by physician.
  • Ensure treatment plans address patients’ functional communication needs.
  • Record evaluations, daily treatment notes, re-assessments, and discharge summaries per Company policy and procedure.
  • Complete all required documentation for reports and daily treatments/interventions prior to leaving the clinic.
  • Submit all billing and necessary information prior to leaving the clinic.
  • Communicate and collaborate regularly with other professionals, paraprofessionals, and family regarding patient treatment plan, progress, and prognosis.
  • Educate patient families and caregivers in treatment and about any applicable maintenance/home programs.
  • Maintain strong professional relationships and good rapport with all administrative and other personnel in the clinic.
  • Terminate service when treatment goals have been achieved.
  • Report any problem areas/equipment within each facility to the appropriate supervisor immediately.
  • Supervise appropriate staff effectively within the scope of practice (SLP-CF, SLPA, aide).
  • Monitor and give direction to RAA’s about performance/attitude and provide needed corrections/feedback as appropriate.
  • Able to report to work regularly and on time.
  • Comply with State Licensing Board of California, Title 22, CMS, and California Labor Board guidelines.
  • Comply with Company and clinic rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Comply with all applicable safety rules, policies, and procedures.

Additional Responsibilities And Expectations

  • Be willing and able to act as a Mentor for new SLP/SLPA or recently hired SLP/SLPA.
  • Assist in administrative and clinical tasks as directed by the Clinical Director or Administrator
  • Assist Management with scheduling staff for training, special cases, etc.
  • Assist with training newly hired employees.
  • Address staff concerns/issues that arise with management and create solutions to benefit the company.
  • Assign tasks to rehab aides during any downtime including cleaning, organizing equipment/toy bins, filing, faxing, scanning, and any other needed.
  • Supervise 2 SLPA’s, at least one SLP-CF, and one speech aide.
  • Provide necessary training and guidance to student interns as assigned, including:
    • Supervise level 1 students regularly.
    • Providing clearly defined, career-related (i.e., non-clerical) responsibilities and tasks in accordance with the students’ academic programs.
    • Informing student interns about and ensuring their compliance with Company, facility, state, and federal guidelines.
    • Completing any paperwork required by the Company or the students’ academic program.

Education, Skills, And Credential Requirements

To perform the job successfully, you must be able to perform each essential responsibility satisfactorily. These requirements are representative, but not all-inclusive, of the knowledge, skill, and ability required of the job.

Required

  • Licensed as a SLP in the State of California.
  • No current citation or probation listed on the Speech Therapy Board of California.
  • Minimum of 1 year as an SLP clinician and a minimum of 1 year employed at maXum.
  • Pass all Background Checks (e.g., Criminal Offense, Sex offender Registry, etc.)
  • A Health Examination from a licensed physician indicating to be able to perform job duties and

free of communicable disease.

  • A negative TB Test taken within 12 months as a current employee or taken within 3 months as a new hire or a rehire, OR a clear Chest X-ray taken within 5 years and a TB Risk Assessment that must be completed each rolling year.
  • A valid CPR certification.
  • Ability to gather and analyze information in a timely and skillful manner.
  • Ability to manage time efficiently.

Workplace Environment

The job will be primarily working in our PEDIATRICS outpatient clinic. This is an active patient care environment. This environment has no hazardous Health and Safety exposures. However, Health and Safety precautions must be taken at all times.

Salary Range: $45.00 to $60.00
