*Part-Time

General Purpose:

Occupational therapy is provided for the purpose of treating physical impairments, functional limitations, disabilities and/or changes in physical function associated with a patient’s health status.  The treatment and intervention provided is in accordance with the patient’s plan of care, accepted professional standards of occupational therapy practice, applicable law and regulation, as well as Interim HealthCare policies, procedures and clinical pathways.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide occupational therapy services to identified students within Bloomfield Hills.

    Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, focusing on improving, developing, or restoring functions impaired or lost through illness, injury; improving ability to perform tasks for independent functioning; and preventing further impairment or loss of function.

    Collaborate with the school leadership team, occupational therapy partner, school staff, and families to implement an individualized Occupational Therapy program for each caseload student that focuses on the whole child encompassing one’s fine/oral/sensory motor needs, adaptive/daily living skills, pre-vocational skills, and social, emotional well-being.

Minimum Education & Experience Requirements:

  • Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy

    Current Occupational Therapist Licensure via Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs.

    3 or more years’ experience working with students with mild to severe disabilities including cognitive impairments, physical/ health impairments, autism spectrum disorder, and severe multiple impairments

    Prior school experience preferred

    Competency in the area of Occupational Therapy as well as knowledge of IEP’s (including evaluation, present level statement, goal/objective development, and service time determination)

    Strong knowledge and understanding of human development from early childhood through young adulthood

    Experience treating students and developing programs for students with feeding/oral-motor deficits

    Knowledge and experience recommending and utilizing adaptive equipment for feeding, positioning, mobility, ADLs and communication

    Experience creating splints, making splinting recommendations and managing splinting programs

    Proven knowledge and ability to implement evidence-based interventions to meet student needs

    Demonstrated excellent collaborative communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills

    High level of knowledge of federal, state and local special education regulations, rules and processes

    Excellent organizational skills and ability to effectively utilize time and balance workload responsibilities across multiple schools in the district

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators, staff, students, parents, and the general public.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing. 
  • Basic math skills are required. 

 

Working Conditions & Physical Effort:  

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, talk, hear (in a quiet or noisy environment). The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust/focus.
