Job Overview
The Clerical Bookkeeper provides professional support for the Accounting Department. This role will act as a liaison with other department staff, UAW staff and affiliates and report to the Chief Accountant.
In this role you will manage transactions across various Accounting systems employing UAW’s processes for all aspects of financial reporting by compiling data, recording income, reviewing and reconciling receipt of per capita taxes, preparing chargeback invoices, reconciling general ledger accounts, preparing financial reports, responding to Help Desk Inquiries and assisting in the Check room as well as other tasks as assigned.
Job Description
- Provide meticulous administrative support with strict confidentiality.
- Perform job duties within scheduled deadlines.
- Function as a liaison with other department staff, UAW staff and affiliates.
- Know, interpret, and apply organizational policies, procedures, and protocols.
- Perform job duties with scheduled deadlines.
- Assist with development, and assessment of office systems, procedures, and operations.
- Review and process incoming correspondence and materials, as well as prepare proper communications in response.
- Time management and planning are essential to prioritizing daily tasks.
Daily tasks:
- Reconcile and record per capita tax payments
- Balance and post transitions to the general ledger.
- Prepare chargeback invoices and adjusting entries for internal funds.
- Prepare month-end close journal entries.
- Reconcile general ledger accounts, troubleshoot and resolve issues.
- Prepare reports for voting strength, notes receivable and mortgages receivable.
- Complete necessary tasks associated with month-end and year-end close.
- Provide accurate data entry for all monetary transactions.
- Respond to Help Desk Inquires.
- Assist in the check room as needed.
- Assist with data requests from internal departments and external service providers (e.g., independent outside auditors and internal audit providers)
- Work with the UAW's Internal Systems (Accounting Systems, MyUAW & Local Union Information System).

- Must successfully complete and pass Bookkeeper A Assessment.
- Positive attitude with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks within a high-pressure environment and meet unpredictable deadlines.
- Commitment to confidentiality and discretion
- Demonstrate strong proofreading skills and accuracy
- Ability to troubleshoot unique situations & update other department staff.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
