What are the responsibilities and job description for the Communications Campaigner position at International Union, UAW?
Communications Campaigner
The UAW has taken an all-new approach to bargaining and striking. During our most recent negotiations with Ford, General Motors, and Stellantis, our union ran a contract campaign for the first time, initiated strikes against all three companies at the same time and brought a whole new level of transparency to bargaining. The result was record-breaking contracts.
From our Stand Up Strike to the recently announced new organizing drive across 13 non-union automakers, the UAW is at the forefront of rebuilding a fighting labor movement. Our union is seeking a Communications Campaigner to join our powerhouse Communications team in assisting strategic campaigns across the country. Candidates must be comfortable working in a high intensity, high-velocity environment and be willing to work long and irregular hours, along with travel, including overnight stays.

- Writing press releases, social media content, fact sheets, talking points, video story boards, scripts, flyers, and other content.
- Building press plans and engaging with local media on a campaign basis.
- Providing direct communications support to new organizing and contract campaigns, including prepping worker leaders as spokespersons, developing overall framing messages, and developing materials for effective communication with the news media, the general public, workers, union members, and other working people and allies.
- Producing multimedia content for campaigns, including photos, videos, and graphics.
- Assisting with the development and writing of internal member communications, including mass texting, e-blasts, social media copy, and more.
- Editing and revising communications content to ensure consistent messaging across our union.
- Training rank-and-file members on developing and executing basic campaign communications.
- Covering in-person rallies and events around the country.

- Minimum three years of work experience in media relations, public affairs, or campaign communications with a demonstrable commitment to winning social and economic justice for workers.

- Must have excellent verbal and written communications skills.
- Proficient with Word, Excel, InDesign, Photoshop (or similar), Final Cut (or similar).
- Experience with Action Network a plus.
Successful candidates will exhibit discerning judgment, exemplary people skills, and adept writing capabilities. The ideal candidate is both a team player who can collaborate with an enthusiastic staff and a self-driven individual versed at time and task management.
