Job Highlights:
This position is responsible for switching and transferring both 48' and 51' trailers around a yard (transfer station) and in and out of a loading pit. The ideal candidate will have a CDL A, and have the ability to maintain the yard independently and efficiently in close proximity to occasional truck traffic.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Maneuver and back trailers properly
- Connect and disconnect trailers from a road tractor or switcher tractor
- Roll and unroll trailer tarps from the ground using a 12' tarp handle or from the Tarping Station
- Perform daily maintenance and inspections on switcher trucks and other equipment
- Perform basic daily maintenance tasks such as adding fuel, lubricant oils, grease machine components, clean radiator, check filters for random inspections
- Perform daily housekeeping/maintenance tasks in the operational area including shoveling, raking, sweeping and picking up litter
- Operate a rubber tire loader to load bulk solid waste into transfer trailers to be hauled to a landfill (must be able to operate within an enclosed structure in close proximity to truck traffic)
- Communicate regularly with crew members, drivers and occasional customers
- Follow OSHA safety standards and wear required PPE
- Daily exposure to outdoor environment including odors, loud noises, weather elements, etc.
Required Qualifications:
- Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and legally eligible to work in the U.S.
- Valid CDL Class A License
- 2 or more years' experience as a CDL yard jockey and/or equipment operator required
- Sanitation industry experience a plus
- Fluency in English required
