What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Accountant position at Intrepid Museum?
The Museum has an open position for an experienced, detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join our Finance Department reporting to the Controller. The position supports the Controller and is responsible for general accounting functions including: daily transactions, periodic reporting, account analysis and reconciliations, journal entries, and receivables. The position will also be responsible for payroll accounting and reconciliations. The ideal candidate is a problem solver who displays initiative and strong analytical skills and has a can-do attitude. Payroll experience is essential; and experience in non-profit accounting is a plus.
Salary Range: $65,000 - $75,000.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Daily accounting functions including general ledger, accounts receivable, revenue recognition, and payroll.
• Review and post journal entries, review account reconciliations and research and adjust discrepancies, propose process improvements.
• Prepare monthly payroll and benefits related reconciliations.
• Reconcile general ledger accounts and maintain account analyses.
• Review complex schedules and validate appropriate financial recognition of assets and liabilities.
• Support month end closing processes
• Assist in preparing audit schedules and gathering supporting documentation for year-end audit.
• Ad-hoc projects as requested.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
• Ability to work in a fast paced, high volume environment and prioritize and manage multiple priorities.
• Highly organized and attentive to detail.
• Team-oriented with strong interpersonal skills, with demonstrated ability to work independently and with others in a diverse organization.
• Solid knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
• Strong understanding of controls and technology and ability to leverage technology to improve processes.
• High proficiency level with Office software including Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
• Strong analytical skills.
• Excellent time management skills.
• Able to communicate effectively (verbal and written).
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor's degree (B. A. or B.S.) in Accounting; and minimum three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience with nonprofits, NetSuite accounting software and a robust CRM/ticketing system is highly desirable.
• Knowledge of payroll essential and experience in ADP HRIS/ payroll system a plus.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Work accurately with close attention to detail
• Ability to work weekends, holidays, and evenings on occasion, as may be necessary.
