Position Summary
The Fire Protection Engineer is a licensed Professional Engineer focusing on fire protection, and will be pivotal in ensuring that our projects meet the highest standards of quality, safety, and innovation. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing shop drawings for fabrication and installation, managing submittals to clients and Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ's), ensuring compliance with all relevant codes and standards, and driving continuous improvement in technology and processes. Additionally, this role includes responsibility for presales engineering and post-release project management.

Additionally, this role includes responsibility for presales engineering and post-release project management.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor a team of engineers and designers, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Oversee design of team members who need to work under the direct supervision of a Professional Engineer to obtain their Professional Engineering license.
- Embrace Ironsmith Fire's core values in all engineering activities.
- Perform and review the preparation of detailed shop drawings for fabrication and installation of fire protection systems.
- Perform and review hydraulic calculations to ensure systems are designed efficiently and effectively.
- Ensure all designs comply with relevant codes, standards, and regulations.
- Prepare and submit engineering documents to clients and AHJ's, ensuring timely approval.
- Ensure all submittals meet client requirements and are compliant with industry standards and local regulations.
- Work with the Chief of Design and Engineering to implement and maintain quality control processes within the engineering team to ensure the highest level of workmanship.
- Work with the Chief of Design and Engineering to drive innovation in design and engineering processes, leveraging new technologies and methodologies to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
- Stay current with industry trends and advancements in fire protection engineering and incorporate relevant technologies into Ironsmith Fire's practices.
- Lead initiatives to improve design and engineering tools, software, and processes.
- Collaborate with the Client Solutions team during presales engineering to develop solutions that meet client needs and project requirements.
- Provide post-release project management, ensuring projects are executed on time, within budget, and to the satisfaction of clients.
- Deliver high-quality, compliant, and innovative fire protection system designs.
- Ensure all engineering projects are completed on time, within scope, and within budget.
- Drive continuous improvement in engineering processes and technologies.
- Coordinate with other departments, such as Client Solutions, Installation, Purchasing, and Fabrication to ensure seamless execution of the contract.
- Collaborate with the engineering team to ensure design drawings, calculations, and specifications are accurate, complete, and compliant.
- Follow quality control processes and procedures to minimize errors and ensure consistency in design deliverables.
- Provide technical guidance and expertise to the design team, resolving complex design issues and offering solutions to challenging design problems.
- Cultivate strong relationships with clients, architects, engineers, contractors, and regulatory authorities, serving as a trusted advisor and liaison throughout the design process.
- Leadership Ability to inspire, guide, and mentor a team of engineers and designers.
- Technical Expertise Strong knowledge of fire protection systems, hydraulic calculations, and relevant codes and standards.

- Hold a Professional Engineer (PE) license in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Five plus years of experience in fire sprinkler system design and engineering, with progressively increasing levels of responsibility including leadership or a managerial role, such as a team lead or project manager.
- Professional certifications related to fire protection, business management, or leadership are advantageous, such as NICET Certification.
- The ability to maintain a high level of energy and stamina to manage long hours, travel requirements, and the stress associated with high-level decision making.
- The ability to travel to meet with clients and team members in different locations.
- While primarily a skill, the physical aspect includes the ability to speak clearly and effectively in public and private settings, and to engage in face-to-face meetings.
- Good general health to fulfill job responsibilities effectively, including being able to work long hours when necessary.
