What are the responsibilities and job description for the Youth Sports Official position at Ivins City?

    JOB DESCRIPTION

    GENERAL PURPOSE:

    Provide instruction, leadership, and direction to youth ages five (5) to twelve (12) in a variety of sports, including but not limited to baseball and softball, flag football, basketball, volleyball, cross country, track and field, and soccer.  You will be considered a role model for young athletes enrolled in the various sports. Sportsmanship, fair play, and full participation are mandatory.


    SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

    Works under the direct supervision of the Recreation Coordinator and the general supervision of Parks & Recreation Director.


    SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

    None – this is not a supervisory position.


    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following tasks, knowledge, skills, and other characteristics.  The list of tasks is illustrative only and is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and tasks performed by positions in this class.)


    1. Oversee games ensuring they start on-time at the beginning, and after each time-out and break.
    2. Teach players the rules of the game.
    3. Enforce game rules during game time.
    4. After a player commits a violation, explain the rule for the violation.
    5. Ensure safety of participants in games.
    6. Be a good example of sportsmanship.
    7. Keep track of supplies and equipment.


    QUALIFICATIONS:

     

    Special Qualifications:

    1. Must be at least 14 years of age.
    2. Must either reside in Ivins City or within ten (10) miles of Ivins City limits.


    Education and Experience:

    1. Must work well with children of various ages.
    2. Must be patient, especially with children.


    Knowledge:

    1. English – Knowledge of the English language, including proper structure, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
    2. Sport - Basic knowledge of the sport or activity involved in.


    Skills:

    1. Reading Comprehension – Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents.
    2. Active Listening – Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
    3. Time Management – Managing one’s own time efficiently.
    4. Speaking – Talking to others to convey information effectively.
    5. Critical Thinking – Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
    6. Judgment & Decision Making – Considering the advantages and disadvantages of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.
    7. Social Perceptiveness – Being aware of others’ reactions and understanding why they react as they do.


    Abilities:

    1. Oral Comprehension – The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
    2. Oral Expression – The ability to communicate information and ideas in speaking so others will understand.
    3. Written Expression – The ability to communicate information and ideas in writing so others will understand.
    4. Written Comprehension – The ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing.
    5. Problem Sensitivity – The ability to recognize when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong.
    6. Near Vision – The ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
    7. Far Vision – The ability to see details at a distance.
    8. Hearing – The ability to hear normally, with or without a hearing aid.


    WORKING CONDITIONS:

    1. Some light to moderate physical activity that may require walking, standing, stooping, bending sitting, and/or reaching; lifting, pushing and/or pulling of light weights up to 30 pounds. 
    2. Required to work outdoors in desert climate. 
    3. Moderate exposure to stress as a result of human behavior.
