JOB DESCRIPTION
GENERAL PURPOSE:
Provide instruction, leadership, and direction to youth ages five (5) to twelve (12) in a variety of sports, including but not limited to baseball and softball, flag football, basketball, volleyball, cross country, track and field, and soccer. You will be considered a role model for young athletes enrolled in the various sports. Sportsmanship, fair play, and full participation are mandatory.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Works under the direct supervision of the Recreation Coordinator and the general supervision of Parks & Recreation Director.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
None – this is not a supervisory position.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following tasks, knowledge, skills, and other characteristics. - Oversee games ensuring they start on-time at the beginning, and after each time-out and break.
- Teach players the rules of the game.
- Enforce game rules during game time.
- After a player commits a violation, explain the rule for the violation.
- Ensure safety of participants in games.
- Be a good example of sportsmanship.
- Keep track of supplies and equipment.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Special Qualifications:
- Must be at least 14 years of age.
- Must either reside in Ivins City or within ten (10) miles of Ivins City limits.
Education and Experience:
- Must work well with children of various ages.
- Must be patient, especially with children.
Knowledge:
- English – Knowledge of the English language, including proper structure, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
- Sport - Basic knowledge of the sport or activity involved in.
Skills:
- Reading Comprehension – Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents.
- Active Listening – Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
- Time Management – Managing one’s own time efficiently.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Some light to moderate physical activity that may require walking, standing, stooping, bending sitting, and/or reaching; lifting, pushing and/or pulling of light weights up to 30 pounds.

- Moderate exposure to stress as a result of human behavior.
