Job Summary:
CNC Mill Operators set up and operate a variety of machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments. May also fabricate and modify parts to make or repair machine tools or maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.
Requirements
Specific Responsibilities Include:
- Comply with plant safety procedures to ensure a safe environment.
- Account for time and work completed via the online computer data collection system.
- Operate machine tools such as milling machines and grinders to produce metal parts.
- Review electronic or written blueprints or specifications for a job.
- Calculate where to cut or bore.
- Shape steel, aluminum, titanium, plastic, silicon and other materials.
- Determine how much material to remove.
- Select tools and materials for the job.
- Plan the sequence of cutting and finishing operations.
- Mark the workpiece to show where cuts should be made.
- Position the workpiece on the drill press, lathe or milling machine.
- Monitor and control feed rate and speed.
- Adjust cutting speed to compensate for harmonic vibrations.
- Performs other related duties.
Other Skills:
- Demonstrate competency in basic shop math
- Must be able to read and understand blueprints
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Possess the ability to drive for results, hold self-accountable, and continuously improve.
Education:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Certification or experience preferred in a related field
Physical Requirements
Most of the job function is performed in a manufacturing setting requiring high safety precautions and physical demands.
