What are the responsibilities and job description for the Animal Shelter Attendant - Casual; Up to 19 hours per week position at Jackson County?
The Jackson County Animal Shelter located on Spring Arbor Road in Jackson, Michigan seeks compassionate individuals to provide care for animals housed in the shelter. Responsibilities include daily nutrition and hygiene services as well as facility custodial and grounds-keeping duties. This is a casual position. Schedule will be less than 20 hours per week; no benefits.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: High school graduation or equivalent with some vocational/trade school or other relevant specialized training.
Experience: One year of experience in working with animals.
Other Requirements: Valid Michigan Drivers’ License. Required to become a Certified Euthanasia Technician.
This job requires the ability to perform the essential functions which include but are not limited to the following requirements. Reasonable accommodations may be made for otherwise qualified applicants unable to fulfill one or more of these requirements:
- Llift animals weighing up to 100 lbs, bags of dog food weighing up to 50 lbs., 5 gallon pails of disinfectant and other materials.
- Lift and carry animals and animal cages to vehicles.
- Stoop and bend in order to clean cages and perform other cleaning tasks.
- Clean and disinfect the kennel, climb on ladders to disinfect shelter.
- Restrain animals with catchpole and other equipment.
- Ability to operate a vehicle.
- Ability to be on call on a 24/7 basis.
