JOB DESCRIPTION

                         

Position:       

Monitor - Study Hall/Cafeteria- JHS

 

Reports to:       

Principal

 

Employment Status:       

Full-time or Part-time

               

FLSA Status:       

Non-Exempt

               

Description:       

Monitor and assist students as needed

                           

NOTE:

Essential Functions:

  • Serve as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings
  • Has a legal responsibility to help instill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values
  • Shall remain free of any alcohol or nonprescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the District
  • Ensure safety of students
  • Assist Principal in identifying attendance or tardiness problems
  • Make contact with the public with tact and diplomacy
  • Maintain respect at all times for confidential information
  • Interact in a positive manner with staff, students and parents
  • Attend meetings and in-services as required
  • Promote good social relationships between students
  • Interact with classroom teachers and administrators
  • Maintain records of student behavior
  • Instruct students on rules and consequences of study hall/cafeteria/playground
  • Monitor hall during change of class
  • Monitor students in study hall/cafeteria/playground
  • Take student attendance when necessary
  • Assist students, as needed 

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with restroom breaks/lunch
  • Supervise general housekeeping duties
  • Handle correspondence with Principal
  • Keep records up-to-date
  • Monitor and supervise students during dismissal
  • Respond to routine questions and requests in an appropriate manner
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Board of Education may find appropriate

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to work effectively with others
  • Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively both orally and in writing
  • Effective active listening skills
  • Basic training in first aid
  • Organizational and problem solving skills

Additional Working Conditions:

  • Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissue
  • Assist students in following rules by offering appropriate behavioral guidance
  • Implement and adjust behavior support strategies to accommodate varying student needs
  • Frequent requirement to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, see, read, speak, reach, stretch with hands and arms, crouch, stoop, kneel, and climb
  • Occasionally lift, carry, push, and pull various items up to a maximum of 25 pounds
  • Work in a variety of weather conditions, including rain, snow, heat, and cold, while ensuring student safety
