Position Summary
The Department of Admissions and Recruitment at Jackson State University is accepting applications for its Transfer Admissions Counselor position. The Admissions Counselors are brand ambassadors who promote Jackson State University positively to external partners, K-12 schools, and community and Junior colleges. This position has a high focus on issue resolution and gaining results that enhances the prospective student experience. The admissions counselor works collaboratively with all departments within Enrollment Management to provide efficient support during the recruitment and admissions processes to prospective students. There is a significant amount of research and extended hours during peak times of the year.
Qualifications
Minimum Required Education
Bachelor’s Degree required.
Minimum Required Experience
Three to five (3-5) years of higher education or related experience preferred.
Minimum Required Licenses and/or Certifications
None.
Qualifications
- Experience with Ellucian Banner system a plus.
- Must be proficient in use of Microsoft Office Software.
- Must provide excellent customer service to students, parents, and the entire University family and other community constituents.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to work with large amounts of data with speed and accuracy.
- Must possess strong interpersonal communication skills.
- Must be detail-oriented; self-motivated, show initiative, and be able to work independently.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Evaluate applicant credentials (transcripts, test score, etc.) for an admission decision.
- Perform data entry of application and credentials as required (transcripts, test score, etc.).
- Provide via web, email, phone, and in person advisement to prospective applicant and the students.
- Communicate admissions status and policies via phone, email, and mail to prospects, current students, and staff.
- Provide or present information regarding admission policies in a factual and ethical manner to prospective students, guardians, counselors, etc.
- Offer alternatives to non-qualified applicants.
- Correspond & follow up with admitted and prospective students.
- Keep transcripts and other documents in an organized manner.
- File and scan documents for future retrieval.
- Download L E-Scrips & other electronic documents relative to students as needed.
- Evaluate criteria for in-state residency petitions and documents (first time freshmen).
- Confer with campus faculty and staff on admissions issues.
- Workshop presentation to students and other constituents.
- Assist with recruitment efforts as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
