Jacob & Hefner Associates, Inc. is a civil engineering, land surveying, and environmental services firm with offices in Illinois, California, Georgia, Texas, and Washington.
We are seeking an exceptional environmental engineer or scientist to help grow our environmental services division in our Downers Grove (suburban Chicago), Illinois office. As a junior-level environmental engineer or scientist you will be involved with contaminated site assessment and remediation, groundwater management, Brownfield redevelopment, and environmental due diligence, while also learning the business skills needed for a successful consulting career.
Experience: 2 to 5 years of experience
Candidate Qualifications: The ideal candidate should possess strong verbal and written communication skills, the ability to be flexible in relation to time management and must be detail oriented. Key candidate qualifications for the junior-level environmental engineer or scientist position include:
- BS degree in environmental engineering, civil or chemical engineering with an environmental focus, geology, or environmental science. (required)
- Advanced degree in the same. (preferred)
- Two to five years of work experience. (required)
- Project experience involving environmental field investigations including Phase I ESAs, soil, soil gas, groundwater and surface water sampling, and environmental and geotechnical drilling. (preferred)
- Ability to obtain professional certification (P.E., P.G., or CHMM). (required)
- Current OSHA 40-hr HAZWOPER training and refreshers. (preferred)
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, AutoCAD, and/or GIS. (required)
- Valid driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record. (required)
Job Responsibilities: Some of the key responsibilities for the junior-level environmental engineer or scientist position include:
- Fieldwork such as soil, soil gas, surface water, air monitoring, and groundwater sampling, drilling and contractor oversight, and remediation treatment system operation and maintenance.
- Soil boring logging; monitoring well installation, aquifer testing, and groundwater monitoring.
- Preparation of soil boring and well construction logs.
- Evaluating chemical and hydrogeological data, including mapping and reporting.
- Data analysis and database management, including preparing tables, maps and figures using AutoCAD and GIS applications.
- Contamination assessment services, such as designing and implementing sampling plans, pilot test designs, and bench scale testing programs.
- Performing remediation system operation and maintenance services.
- Conducting remedy evaluation, cost estimating, design, and implementation.
- Support Phase I Environmental Site Assessments and Transaction Screening Assessments.
- Assisting in the development of proposals and other business development activities.
- Fieldwork – Up to 70%
- Overnight Travel – Up to 30%
