Function:
The IT Support Technician I is an entry-level technical role responsible for providing first-line user support, endpoint management, and basic systems assistance under the direction of the IT Administrator. This position serves as the primary point of contact for day-to-day IT issues and plays a key role in maintaining reliable, secure, and compliant computing operations. The role is designed for professional development within a regulated environment and operates under the principles of least privilege, documented procedures, and strict adherence to company security policies.
Core DutiesResponsibilities:
User Support and Service Desk
- Provide Tier 1 technical support for end users (in-person, Teams, phone, email, ticketing system)
- Troubleshoot and resolve common hardware, software, and connectivity issues
- Install, configure, and maintain Windows workstations, laptops, printers, and peripherals
- Assist users with Microsoft 365 applications (Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, Office)
Endpoint and Asset Management
- Image and deploy new computers according to standard build procedures
- Perform routine maintenance: updates, patches, antivirus verification, disk cleanup
- Track IT assets in the asset management system (computers, monitors, mobile devices)
- Assist with onboarding and offboarding of employees (account setup, equipment recovery)
Basic Systems and Network Support
- Assist with server user and group management under supervision
- Perform password resets and basic account administration
- Verify backup jobs and report failures to senior staff
- Assist with basic network troubleshooting (wired, Wi-Fi, VPN client issues)
Security and Compliance Support
- Follow all IT security policies, CUI/UCNI handling procedures, and access controls
- Report security incidents, phishing attempts, or policy violations immediately
- Ensure endpoints remain compliant with patching, antivirus, and configuration baselines
- Assist with documentation and evidence collection for audits and compliance reviews
Documentation and Process Improvement
- Document troubleshooting steps and resolutions in the ticketing system
- Maintain user guides and internal IT procedures as assigned
- Escalate unresolved issues appropriately to senior IT staff or vendors
Typical Working Conditions:
Primarily an office environment with periodic exposure to the fabrication/machine shops and mechanical rooms. May require working outside of normal business hours in the event of an IT emergency. JFT has implemented a 9/80 work schedule, and the office is closed every other Friday. This role is on-site and not eligible for a hybrid work schedule.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to work on a computer (standing or sitting) for most of the day and operate standard office equipment. Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally with team members, customers and vendors is essential. Occasional bending, stooping and crouching may be needed to install and maintain equipment. Manual dexterity and visual acuity are also necessary. May occasionally lift and carry items, typically under 25lbs.
Qualifications and Experience:
Education: Associate's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and relevant technical experience.
Technical Skills
Basic understanding of:
- Windows 10 / Windows 11 administration
- Microsoft 365 user support
- Basic networking concepts (IP, DNS, DHCP)
- Hardware troubleshooting (desktops, laptops, printers)
Familiarity with:
- Server user and group management
- Ticketing systems and structured troubleshooting
- Antivirus and endpoint protection tools
Experience with:
- Manufacturing or engineering environments
- On-premises servers and hybrid cloud environments
- Regulated or compliance-driven IT operations
Access to Restricted Information: This role requires immediate and routine access to restricted information under federal law, including but not limited to Export Controlled Information (ECI), Unclassified Controlled Nuclear Information (UCNI), Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI), Department of Energy Official Use Only (DOE OUO), and/or ITARcontrolled technical data.
