What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Construction Inspector position at Janssen & Spaans Engineering, Inc.?
Janssen & Spaans Engineering (JSE) is looking for a SENIOR construction Inspector to join our team! This position safeguards engineering excellence by inspecting construction of bridges, roadways and other construction work to ensure that procedures and materials comply with plans and specifications. It is preferred that the candidate has a Bachelor of Science in Civil/Construction Engineering with a concentration in Highway Projects and 10 years’ INDOT and other DOT construction inspection experience.
Job Description:
- Delegate tasks effectively and provide guidance/mentoring to inspection staff.
- Measures distances to verify accuracy of installations and layouts
- Observes work in progress to ensure procedures are followed and materials that are used conform to specifications
- Examines finished installations for conformity to specifications and approves installations
- Interprets plans and specifications
- Records quantities of materials used, and amount of work performed
- Maintains daily or weekly log of construction and inspection activities
- Computes estimates of work completed and approves payment for contractors
- Retains records of materials used and their certifications
- Performs material testing or provides direction for material testing and retains records
- Compiles records of quantities, materials, material testing or certification, daily activities, etc. for submission to client
- Completes assignments accurately, expeditiously, and on schedule
- Exhibits a positive attitude and willingness to work as a team member
- Willingness to take on additional assignments outside of normal work duties
- Adheres to company/client work hours and policies
- Ability to work independently and responsible for informing supervisor in advance when current assignment will be completed
- Comfortable in seeking out assignments, as needed
- Other duties as required
Desired Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil/Construction Engineering
- PE Optional
- Registered as an INDOT Certified Technician (if not a licensed PE)
- Familiarity with INDOT Specification and Contract means/methods
- Proficient with Project SiteManager Software (Program replaced with AWP)
- Proficient with, or ability to learn, AWP AASHTO Software (INDOT’s new software program)
- Leadership and motivational skills
- Strong Time management skills
- Efficient analysis and critical thinking skills
- Exceptional attention to detail
- Adequate knowledge of Microsoft Office programs
- Considerable listening and communication skills
