Position Description
The Nikkei Heritage Association of Washington (NHAW), doing business as the Japanese Cultural & Community Center of Washington (JCCCW), is seeking to fill a staff position for a Facilities Manager. The Facilities Manager will be responsible for making sure the JCCCW buildings and grounds are maintained, which includes determining and scheduling regular maintenance and repairs. This position must oversee scheduled work as well as negotiate with outside vendors for regular services, and repairs as well as construction/renovation projects. The Facilities Manager will oversee the work of external contractors and ensure that all work is completed according to standard. This position will report to the Executive Director.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance tasks for the facility.
- Communicate and coordinate with regular service providers, including cleaning service, pest control, landscaping, etc..
- Monitor the safety and cleanliness of interior and exterior areas and make recommendations for changes/improvements to management.
- Oversee work related to construction and renovation projects.
- Submit Request for Proposals (RFP) to contractors.
- Schedule routine inspections and emergency repairs.
- Prepare facilities for changing weather throughout the year.
- Create reports on maintenance, repairs, safety and other occurrences for the Executive Director and NHAW Board of Directors.
- Assist in other areas as requested by the Executive Director.
Minimum Requirements
- Must be eligible to work in the United States.
- Basic knowledge of building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and fire safety.
- The ability to comfortably operate a variety of power tools.
- Ability to collaborate with others, both internally and externally.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Willingness to work occasional weekends and evenings.
- Comfortable working as part of a small team.
- Ability to safely lift or move a minimum of 25lbs.
Desirable Skills/Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 2 years experience working in a similar role, especially at a non-profit or historic facility.
- Familiarity and practical experience with the systems, mechanics, structural components, and potential maintenance-related issues of a 100 year old facility.
- Experience overseeing external contractors, or managing minor construction or installation projections.
- Familiarity with working in a Japanese or Japanese American work environment, or other minority group.
- Ability to multi-task.
- Organization skills, attention to detail.
- The ability to problem solve independently and as part of a team.
- Communication proficiency in both verbal and written skills.
- Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffoldings, ramps and so on.
- Project management, contracting, and supervision.
