The BANQUET CAPTAIN'S essential purpose is to assist to oversee the execution of all Banquet functions, and to assist the Director of Banquets, Assistant Director, and the Lead Banquet Captains in all operations of the department.
ESSESNTIAL DUTIES:
- To understand and respond to all guest needs and requests in a timely and professional
- To assist, as directed, to train, support, and discipline Banquet staff, to maintain highest possible levels of employee morale and department
- To assist, as directed, to organize all Banquet functions, including meetings set up, and food and beverage
- To work closely with Banquet clients to ensure their needs are
- To follow all specified procedures to ensure satisfactory performance of daily responsibilities, including handling guest checks and gratuity distribution; securing all Banquet areas at the end of each shift; maintaining Banquet supply inventory; and completing daily paperwork for billing and accounting
JOB KNOWLEDGE & EDUCATIONAL LEVEL: AA degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management, Marketing, or related field required. Must have minimum three years’ experience in hotel Banquet department, including one year supervisory experience. Must be familiar with variety of foods, wines, and cocktails, have knowledge of proper service techniques, and be creative in working with theme functions. Familiar with OSHA, SB198, local Department of Health regulations, and relevant current laws governing handling of hazardous substances. Valid California driver’s license required. Must be insurable under company automobile coverage. Current CPR certification preferred.

Courteous, friendly, and professional manner. Good team player. Customer service focus. Able to work productively with little supervision. Able to effectively manage staff.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Spends approximately 80% of shift working indoors in temperature- controlled, clean, and well-lighted office and banquet rooms. Spends remaining 20% outdoors during banquet functions. Makes frequent trips to kitchen, where air may be moist, warm, and odorous from cooking foods. Kitchen floor is uneven, and may be slippery from moisture and grease. Works on all surfaces, including grass, concrete, and tile. Bi-level structures. Extensive facility. Work areas may be noisy and congested, depending upon size and location of function.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Stands/walks approximately 50% of shift. Sits at desk approximately 50% of shift. Must be able to work under pressure. Flexibility and good reflexes required to operate electric carts. Frequent use of stairs, daily.
