Description
The Inventory Specialist is responsible for inventory management involving ingredient ordering, ingredient inventory control, and direct load scheduling.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Adhere to all safety policies as established by JDH
- Manage day-to-day ingredient and commodity inventories for production facilities and schedule accurately to avoid ingredient outages
- Enter accurate and up to date information in purchase order and load systems
- Ensure ingredient names are accurate and match throughout all systems; product labels, JDH accounting, and production software
- Meet with and build relationships with suppliers and nutritionists
- Occasional visits to production facilities which may require overnight travel
- Communicate with Pricing Manager and Formulators on any ingredient or inventory issues that may interrupt production
- Set up purchase orders and direct loads as directed by Pricing Manager, or from existing contracts
- Frequently communicate with transportation managers to ensure loads are dispatched as needed
- Cross-train to be able to perform basic feed formulation for feed manufacturing facilities in the Southwest and Colorado JDH region
- Communicate with Pricing Manager/Formulator when new ingredients are added, current ingredients are discontinued, or ingredient production issues are occurring
- Maintain and communicate to Pricing Manager and Formulator any ingredients that are no longer being used in order to minimize the time dead inventory remains in stock
- Provide support with inputting weekly costs in Feed Formulation System under the direction of the Pricing Manager.
- Complete or participate in special projects as directed by Pricing Manager
Requirements
- College degree in Agriculture, Animal Science, or Business Management preferred.
- High level of detail, multi-tasking, analytical, and problem solving skills with intuition to create solutions.
- Understanding of inventory costs and how they apply to financial results.
- Ability to be trained and retain basic nutritional knowledge of products and acceptable inclusions in formulation.
- Ability to forecast ingredient/inventory needs to ensure adequate inventory to support production.
- Positive, self-motivated individual with organization and communication skills.
- Teamwork skills – ability to work well with others and communicate effectively to ensure success of all parties.
- Strong commitment to customer service and integrity.
- Willingness to learn and understand ingredients and their uses.
