Guest Teacher (Substitute)

Jeffco Public Schools needs 300-500 guest teachers per day! In addition to our elementary, middle, and high schools we also serve Option Schools, Charter Schools, and district-run preschools. Our guest teachers include retired teachers, people considering a career change to teaching, parents, and seasoned teachers who just prefer the flexibility of taking teaching jobs on their own schedule. We offer a wide variety of teaching experiences with an ethnically, culturally, and economically diverse population of wonderful students from pre-K to grade 12.

SUMMARY: Guest Teachers are an integral part of the Jeffco team to ensure there is a quality teacher in every classroom. Responsible for the delivery of specified course content in the absence of the classroom teacher. Responsible for providing a safe educational atmosphere where students have the opportunity to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, and psychological growth. The guest teacher's workday corresponds with the teacher's workday. Guest teachers are employed on a day-to-day basis and accept assignments at their own discretion.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Follow defined lesson plans set forth by classroom teacher.

Provide an impromptu lesson plan or activity in the absence of teacher provided lesson plan.

Assist students with their coursework and communicate assignment expectations.

Adapt instructional approach to the individual needs of the students.

Provide a safe learning environment and deploy proper classroom management strategies.

Collaborate with other instructional staff, including social workers, speech language pathologists, Special Education teachers, etc., as needed.

Perform teaching related duties of the assigned school including covering another class during an absent teacher?s planning period, lunchroom duty, hall duty, bus duty and /or playground duty.

Assist with school-wide assessments including CMAS, SAT, MAP testing, etc., if necessary.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Communicate with parents as needed.

For Long Term Assignments:

Develop lesson plans for length of assignment.

Grade student work, enter grades in online gradebook, and provide course grade.

Conduct student/parent/teacher conferences if needed.

EXPERIENCE Previous teaching experience preferred. Other experience working with children in a learning environment will be considered.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING Valid Colorado teaching license or substitute authorization. If offered a Long Term Assignment, In Field qualification for the applicable teaching subject may be required by the school.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, & EQUIPMENT Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to effectively and efficiently use technology and information literacy in instruction. Willingness to learn new technology. Must be flexible and have capacity for dealing with ambiguity. Willingness to be a contributing member of Jeffco Public Schools guest teacher pool.
