What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Workforce Development position at Jefferson Parish School District?
Position Description:
- Reporting to the Executive Director of School Support (High Schools) in the Teaching and Learning Unit, the Director of Workforce Development is responsible for working with Jefferson Parish Business and Industry leaders to cultivate key partnerships leading to high wage jobs and relative CTE high school pathways.
Scope of Responsibility:
- Works in conjunction with school administrators to implement state and local CTE initiatives and inform course options, guidelines and graduation requirements for students. Ensures compliance with federal, state and local policies pertaining to CTE programs.
- Coordinates and delivers professional development for CTE teachers.
- Oversees the integration of certification requirements dictated by industry into state and local curricula.
- Prepares, submits and reviews budgets as appropriate.
- Provides information to Executive Directors of School Support and principals as necessary to help prepare CTE and College & Career Readiness grants.
- Works with business and industry to fulfill workforce needs.
- Works with post-secondary educational institutions to help students make an easy transition from high school.
- Tracks and/or collects industry based credentials from schools and submits through data management.
- Tracks and/or collects dual enrollment and work keys data.
- Works to obtain quotes, submits requisition and tracks POs in all budgets that relate to Career and Technical Ed.
- Communicates with business and industry partners, schools and other JPPSS departments.
- Prepares for district and regional meetings hosted by JPPSS as they relate to CTE.
- Coordinates JPPSS Career Fair.
- Participates in meetings and webinars as they relate to the above responsibilities.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of School Support.
- Ensures more students are CTE credentialed then previous years.

- Bachelor’s Degree
- Experience working in a high school setting.
- Coordination or Administrative experience with CTE
- Strong communication skills in multiple settings and the ability to be an engaging change agent and culture-creator that can inspire and motivate.
- Ability to cultivate key parish wide partnerships.
- High degree of professionalism, with the ability to manage multiple competing priorities, while consistently demonstrating sound judgment and disciplined thinking.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Advanced degree or certifications
Physical Involvement:
- Sitting is required part of each work day.
- Must be able to operate office equipment.
- Standing, walking, reaching, bending, lifting up to 10 pounds is sometimes required.
- Ability to provide own transportation to schools, work locations and meeting sites.
- Mobility skills necessary to access a variety of work locations.
