POSITION SUMMARY: The Bus Driver is responsible for transporting passengers over specified routes to local or distant points according to a time schedule by performing the duties listed below.
Essential duties and Responsibilities include the following, and other duties may be assigned:
- Drive senior citizens to various destinations
- Assist frail passengers in mounting and dismounting vehicle when appropriate
- Maintain vehicles including fueling, cleanliness and general maintenance
- Performs pre and post vehicle operational inspections before departure and at the end of the shift
- Checks the condition of vehicle’s tires, brakes, windshield wipers, lights, oil, fuel, water, and safety equipment to ensure everything is in working order
- Report all mechanical concerns and required repairs immediately to supervisor for approval
- Comply with traffic regulations to operate vehicle in a safe manner.
- Treat all riders courteously
- Report all unusual incidents occurring while performing duties immediately through the two-way radio
- Assist co-workers and supervisors in additional appropriate tasks
- Regulate heating, lighting, and ventilating systems for passenger comfort
- Comply with local traffic regulations
- Report delays or accidents
- Provide back up to drivers with existing routes as needed
- Work safely and take extra safety precautions at all times. Safe driving is considered a primary requirement of continued employment with Senior Ride
- Attend training and staff meetings
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent or technical school certificate; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Able to pass a level II background check and random yearly drug and alcohol tests
- Florida Driver's License in good standing with a CDL Endorsement P driver's permit
- Ability to operate vehicle in a safe manner abiding by all traffic regulations
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence
- Ability to carry out written or oral instructions effectively
- Ability to handle problems that may occur while in transit in a professional manner
- Able to complete basic calculations, which include tallying and tracking number of passengers
