Chicago, IL Full Time

Are you looking for a mission-driven non-profit where your skills can help people in need around the world? At the Jewish United Fund (JUF), we take pride in our mission and in having a work culture that fosters a sense of belonging and feels rewarding, supportive, and inclusive. We have a hybrid schedule and offer generous benefits including a 401(k) match, up to 22 days of paid time off (starting with 15), up to 11 sick days (starting with 7), and up to 21 paid holidays. The salary range for this role is $45,000-$55,000.

We are looking for a critical thinker and good writer who is curious, values relationships, and wants to use their skills to support a mission-driven nonprofit organization. In this role, you will write, submit, and sustain grants, private funding, and government revenue for a variety of programs. Your work generating and sustaining grant revenue will help people in need in Chicago and globally – from supporting people in poverty to Jewish education and engagement, and everything in between. You will use your strategic thinking skills to support programs as they consider how to maximize their community impact.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Be responsible for the submission of grant proposals, reports, and budgets for a range of programs (e.g., social service programs, support for individuals with disabilities, care for those living in poverty, Jewish young family and teen engagement, security related initiatives, JUF’s work in Israel, etc.) This includes working with other JUF departments and agency partners in the areas of program planning, drafting narratives, preparing budgets, and tracking results and outcomes. You will get to develop your writing and editing skills, knowledge of local programs and services, and understanding of non-profit work.
  • Take the lead in supporting our program that provides basic needs assistance for individuals living in poverty in the Uptown Neighborhood in Chicago through grant writing, advocacy, and administrative oversight.
  • Research and identify new funding opportunities, including fostering relationships with foundation representatives.
  • Support JUF Campaign and mandatory campaign-related activities on an ongoing basis.

What you need to succeed:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • At least 1 year professional experience, preferably in a non-profit setting
  • Experience with grant writing, program development, or government grant writing is preferred but not required
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, written, and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to juggle multiple tasks, work under and meet deadlines, and work collaboratively and independently
  • Exceptional ability to take initiative, exercise sound judgment, employ strategic thinking, and work with senior staff
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite of Products

          What you’ll love about us:

At JUF, you can be part of one of the largest non-profit social welfare institutions in Illinois. We provide food, refuge, healthcare, education, emergency assistance, and essential services to 500,000 Chicagoans of all faiths and millions of Jews around the world. We offer medical, dental, and vision insurance, 401(k) with base contribution and match, additional health and wellness benefits, financial benefits, professional training, tuition reimbursement, and much more. We have a flexible schedule with core hours and the ability to work from home / remote a few days per week (for most positions) on a hybrid basis. This job is Union Eligible.
