What are the responsibilities and job description for the Painter / Coordinator - Paint Shop (Millwork) position at JK2 Scenic?
The Paint Shop Painter/Coordinator preps, paints and finishes assigned projects, as well as documents formulas, processes and procedures in the Paint Shop. This role coordinates with project managers and the fabrication team on forecasting time and materials needed for efficient workflow and timely project completion and attends production meetings. This position also provides input on budget for materials and labor need to complete various jobs, from small props through fully themed environments. The Painter/Coordinator is responsible for ensuring production is completed safely, efficiently, in a timely manner, and confirms the quality of the final product meets JK2 standards. This position requires general administrative tasks.
Requirements:- Performs 3D sculpting, casting, mold making, and theme painting using multiple mediums and materials; e.g., FRP, GFRG, butyrate, latex, oil base products, silicone, adhesives, urethanes, poly-mixes, acrythanes, and enamels.
- Collaborates with Project Managers, clients, designers, and other shop team members to ensure quality of work is completed within the proper budget/time restraints and meets initial design intent.
- Creates material finishes from undocumented sources, as well as from documented sources and field samples, with a detailed operating procedure or log to duplicate the procedure and steps for future preparation/use.
- Coordinates with the production team to identify the materials and supplies needed for project completion.
- Communicates can collaborates with the production team about estimated hours to complete.
- Helps to plan work schedules, equipment usage schedules, priority of painting expenditures and procedures for equipment maintenance.
- Solves problems; foresees issues before they occur and takes action to avoid them.
- Executes daily shop tasks and coordinates production materials to meet daily/weekly deadlines; i.e., verifies that all material/product is available.
- Satisfies all theming components either with current skills, through subcontractor partnerships, or recommends a path to bring those skills or components in house.
- Develops partnerships with other trades/vendors and assist with JK2’s growth from small to large in-house theming capabilities.
- Documents process for product restoration and reproduction.
- Repairs/removes imperfections and conducts research (historical/cultural) to ensure authenticity is maintained and the process can be reproduced for future maintenance.
- Solves complicated concepts or challenges for paint prep and finishing with creativity and independent thinking.
- Coordinates projects and schedules with the fabrication team and Project Managers. Ensures project success through early detection of lead times and project risks.
- Assists with estimating future work and departmental growth.
- Cross trains team members and establishes and maintain a positive and cooperative work environment.
- Ensures proper safety practices/procedures are used, including identification and proper disposal of hazardous/toxic liquids or materials.
