Job Summary:
Amazon is seeking a highly skilled weather scientist to support the Prime Air drone delivery program. In this role, you will develop and implement innovative weather solutions using your expertise in atmospheric science and data science, while collaborating with a team of engineers and scientists.
Responsibilities:
• Develop, build, and implement novel weather solutions using expertise in atmospheric science, data science, and software development.
• Drive cross-functional decision-making through excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Define system architecture and requirements to enable the scaling of Prime Air’s operation.
• Produce innovative technological breakthroughs that unlock opportunities to meet customers' evolving demands.
Qualifications:
Required:
• PhD, or Master's degree and 5 years of applied research experience
• Experience programming in Java, C , Python or related language
• 3 years of building machine learning models for business application experience
• Experience building weather solutions with weather data, data science and machine learning.
Preferred:
• Degree in atmospheric science or equivalent
• Expertise in weather modeling, weather forecasting, weather observation, mesoscale and boundary layer meteorology
• Experience leading high impact weather research projects
• Demonstrable experience developing, building, and implementing machine learning and/or statistical models into production systems on cloud platforms like AWS
• Experience in professional software development writing clean, testable, performant, and elegant code
• Familiarity with a wide variety of weather data from various weather model and weather analysis products
• An understanding of turbulence theory, large eddy simulations, and computational fluid dynamics models
• Experience in gathering requirements through effective communication with end users, business teams, and management
• Author of high impact publications at top-tier peer-reviewed conferences or journals, or patents
