Job Summary:
The Allen Institute is dedicated to unlocking the complexities of bioscience and improving human health through an open science approach. They are seeking a Technical Project Manager II to lead and coordinate cross-functional AI/ML projects and drive initiatives that enhance the AI/ML infrastructure for researchers and technologists.
Responsibilities:
• Lead the planning, execution, and tracking of complex, cross-functional AI/ML projects, acting as the team's central coordinator to improve velocity and remove roadblocks
• Support the development of shared tools/components for model development and deployment
• Support AI/ML infrastructure initiatives that streamline how teams access cost effective, elastic, scalable compute resources across multiple clouds
• Own the training/documentation needed to onboard and support users of our centralized AI/ML infrastructure
Qualifications:
Required:
• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of degree and experience
• Minimum 1 year of experience as a technical project or program manager working on projects related to AI/ML and/or advanced computational methods
• Familiarity with AI/ML workflows, cloud service providers (AWS, GCP, Azure), cloud infrastructure, and orchestration tools
• Demonstrated ability to implement appropriate project management methodologies and tools based on requirements, ranging from small exploratory projects to large scale collaborations
• Ability to synthesize technical input from multiple stakeholders and translate it into actionable roadmaps or milestones
• Comfortable navigating ambiguity in early-stage exploratory efforts while maintaining a bias toward execution and outcome tracking
• Familiarity with common AI/ML frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow, scikit-learn), experiment tracking tools (e.g., Weights & Biases, MLflow), and model deployment technologies
• Proven ability to work collaboratively across diverse fields including computer science, research, and engineering teams
• Proven ability to read, analyze, and create technical documentation
Preferred:
• 2-4 years of experience as a technical project or program manager working on projects related to AI/ML and/or advanced computational methods
• Ability to manage projects with significant technical uncertainty and with multiple stakeholders
• Familiarity with biological or life sciences data and imaging technologies
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including ability to communicate technical concepts to diverse audiences and ability to align stakeholders at multiple levels
• Growth mindset, technical rigor and optimism about how computational algorithms can help accelerate biological research
