Assistant Director, Engagement Coordinator - WRAC

Position Summary:

The Women’s Resource & Action Center seeks an Assistant Director and Engagement Coordinator to develop, implement, and evaluate student and campus community engagement programs; to ensure programming is guided by current research, expert recommendations, and best practices, and aligns with the Center’s overall mission; to lead and manage a student volunteer program, plan/co-plan and implement community-building and educational programming events, coordinate professional development opportunities for staff; and to assist Director in budget development, monitoring, and ensuring that expenditures align with unit, division, and institutional priorities, within resource capacity.

Specific Job Duties & Tasks:

  • Assesses education and community-building program needs and leads in the development of new programs and services based on identified needs.
  • Develops program objectives, program outlines, evaluation tools and documents outcomes regarding program effectiveness and alignment with unit priorities.
  • Assists in development processes related to the Division of Student Life’s and broader University of Iowa strategic priorities.
  • Acts as liaison to campus partners and student groups, continuously engaging important partners through communication, facilitation, and data to ensure alignment of strategic goals with community needs and assets.
  • Manages department's outreach and communication strategies, meeting with staff and campus/community partners to develop strategies.
  • Acts as final decision maker for administrative decisions for program areas assigned by Director.
  • Hires, screens and schedules student employees.
  • Trains and supervises student employees.
  • Identifies opportunities for the use of data-driven decision-making and ensures that data is collected, integrated, and communicated effectively.
  • Analyzes data and make recommendations for program and policy changes.
  • Mentors students in volunteer programs.
  • Provide critical leadership and support, ensuring maintenance and expansion of programming and outreach efforts.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in a field relevant to the position or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication skills.  Ability to effectively transmit, receive and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through appropriate communication methods and behaviors at a working proficiency level.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the values of the Division of Student Life, including an active commitment to creating a welcoming and respectful environment.
  • Demonstrates a working proficiency in the ability to provide excellent customer service and to meet or exceed customer service needs.
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office computer software applications, (including, Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Extensive knowledge and skills to utilize various methods to deliver learning solutions for desired training outcomes (e.g. public speaking, group workshops, online training), and volunteer development.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience in budget development and management.
  • Professional experience working in higher education involving work with college-age students.
  • Knowledge of assessment methods and activities; ability to assess research and instructional programs and review students' learning outcomes to ensure achievement of objectives and strategies.
