What are the responsibilities and job description for the Risk Manager position at John A. Logan College?
The Risk Manager will oversee the institutions comprehensive risk management program, assessing and identifying risks that could impede the reputation, safety, security, or overall success of the institution. We are looking for a diligent individual to analyze and oversee risk management issues for our institution. The Risk Manager’s responsibilities include conducting extensive research and assessments to evaluate risk levels and develop contingency plans and solutions that reduce and control risks and liabilities.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Promote a culture of safety awareness, prevention, and mitigation of risk
- Manage the College’s Risk Management Plan that includes needed policies, procedures and trainings
- Chair the College Safety Committee and conduct process meetings with campus departments
- Conduct safety assessments of College facilities, identify potential hazards, and take corrective actions
- Work in cooperation with campus departments to monitor the functionality of safety equipment and systems such as fire detection, emergency alert, eyewash stations, Automated External Defibrillator (AED), etc.
- Manage the College’s hazardous waste disposal process and any required employee trainings
- Collaborate with the College’s CFO and broker to ensure a comprehensive insurance package
- Investigate and follow-up on workplace accidents and take any necessary corrective actions
- Submit to insurance providers and act as a liaison for insurance claims and worker’s compensation
- Manage compliance and act as a liaison with Federal, State, and Local agencies regarding health, safety, and environmental regulations
- Develop and implement college-wide employee training programs concerning safety and health including OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory agencies
- Maintain records of inspections, employee trainings, safety drills, accident reports, insurance claims, corrective actions, and OSHA logs, etc.
- Assist the Information Technology staff with Identity Theft and Payment Card Industry (PCI) compliance
- Assist Campus Police with Emergency Preparedness and the National Incident Management System (NIMS)
- Assist the HR Office with Americans with Disability Act reasonable accommodation compliance
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in risk management, industrial safety, business, or related field
- Minimum of two years’ experience with similar risk management responsibilities
Preferred Qualifications
- OSHA certification
- Working knowledge of OSHA, EPA regulations, emergency and hazard procedures
