What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Records Specialist (Clerk II) position at Johnson County Kansas?
Johnson County Mental Health Center is looking for qualified candidates to fill the full time position of Medical Records Specialist. This position is part of a team that creates, maintains and retains medical records for clients, as well as processing requests for records pursuant to state and federal requirements. The Medical Records Specialist will be responsible learning and adhering to 42 CFR, HIPAA and applicable state law concerning confidentiality and privacy of protected healthcare information. Application review will begin on Wednesday, August 24. Additional duties include:
- Gathers information; creates, maintains, and disseminates public and confidential files; distributes reports; performs typing and data entry; processes transactions into systems.
- Reviews discrepancies in data; requests clarification or advises supervisor of issues related to data; performs data verification in accordance with standard processes and procedures.
- Completes document imaging process.
- Answers phones, refers calls, gives standard information in response to phone, email, and in-person inquiries. Greets visitors and maintains/administers appropriate safety procedures in secured environments.
High school diploma or equivalent and one year of relevant experience is required.
Experience with medical records and customer service is preferred.
Experience can substitute for education. Education can substitute for experience.
Johnson County Government requires reference/background screening for all positions. Specified criteria may vary by Department/Agency.
