What are the responsibilities and job description for the PT Community Program Instructor position at Johnston Community College?
This position is to create a pool of part time Community Program Instructors. Example of classes include but are not limited to:
- Arts & Crafts (painting, sewing, quilting, floral design, pottery, stained glass, jewelry, various crafts, etc.)
- Cooking classes (pastry, canning, grilling, sauces, etc.)
- Dance classes
- Defensive Driving
- Foreign Languages
- Motorcycle Safety
- Music classes (vocal/instruments)
- Photography
- Recreation classes
- Self Defense Classes
- Special Effects makeup/masks/prosthetics
Community Program Instructors will instruct classes associated with personal enrichment and community related classes in their field of experience. The instructor will be responsible for providing classroom instruction; evaluating student performance and maintaining accurate documentation as required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Provide instruction and conducts activities to achieve learning outcomes.
- Completes forms pertaining to registration and attendance records.
- Prepares lesson plans, course overviews and course syllabi.
- Selects appropriate learning material for assigned classes.
Supervisory Responsibilities: This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
Qualifications:

Education: High School Diploma or general education degree (GED)
Experience Minimum: One (1) to Three (3) years of relevant experience in the field of the related class.

- Ability to properly write and format correspondence.
Mathematical Skills
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Computer Skills
- To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Word and other Microsoft Office Suite programs and applications associated with the related class and should be proficient in performing Internet searches.
