SUMMARY:

The Joint Industry Board of the Electrical Industry (JIB) was established in 1943 by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local Union No. 3 and employers affiliated with the National Electrical Contractors Association. Its mission is to promote harmony between employees and employers, administer benefits for members and their families and improve competitiveness through progressive management, education, training and technology.

JIB Services LLC/JIB Medical, PC is the medical facility for a large, non-profit, self-funded union/multi-employer benefit plan that handles approx. 40,000 visits yearly for a variety of services. We believe in providing the highest quality medical care and providing every patient the very best care.

JOB DESCRIPTION

JIB Medical is seeking an experienced Optometrist to join our JIB Medical team of professionals. Reporting to the Director of Medical, the Optometrist will be responsible for but not limited to:

Clinical duties

  • Within the scope of optometry, examine eyes, using observation, instruments and pharmaceutical agents, to determine visual acuity and perception, focus and coordination, and to diagnose diseases and other abnormalities such as glaucoma or color blindness
  • Communicate with patients to get detailed patient history.
  • Examining eye of patients of all ages to detect signs of injury, disease, abnormality or vision defects
  • Being aware of signs and symptoms of general health condition (e.g. diabetes)
  • Remove foreign bodies from the eye
  • Provide patients undergoing eye surgeries, such as cataract and laser vision correction, with pre-and post-operative care.
  • Analyze results and develop a treatment plan
  • Prescribe, supply, fit and adjust eyeglasses, contact lenses and other vision aids.
  • Offer advice for patients choosing frames and lenses
  • Prescribe therapeutic procedures to correct or conserve vision
  • Prescribe medications to treat eye diseases if state laws permit
  • Educate and counsel patients on visual hygiene, lighting arrangements and safety factors.
  • Offer advice and reassurance about vision-related matters
  • Consult with and refer patients to an ophthalmologist or other health care practitioner if additional medical treatment is determined necessary
  • Liaising with other medical practitioners and sometimes sharing the care of patients with chronic ophthalmic conditions
  • Adhere to JIB Medical COVID-19 Policies and Procedures

Administrative duties include: greeting patients and updating and filing patients' medical records

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional optical center -- customer service environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as optical instruments and machines within the scope of practice.

Physical Demands

Sedentary work environment with physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the functions of this job. This would require the ability to lift files, pull files/forms/electronic medical charts, stand, bending, shred documents, open/close filing cabinets as necessary.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time –37 hours per week. Saturday is a required day.

SATURDAY 9 AM-2 PM

Travel -- No travel is expected for this position.

Required Experience, Skills, and Qualifications

  • Doctorate in Optometry from an accredited institution
  • Must be licensed in NY
  • Must have 1-3 years of experience
  • State Licenses are renewed every 1 to 3 years and continuing education credits are needed for renewal
