Are you a veterinarian looking for a flexible, short-term opportunity in a fun and supportive environment? Jolly Road Veterinary Hospital is seeking a Relief Veterinarian for a temporary two-week position from August 4–8 and August 11–15, 2025.
We are a busy small animal and exotics practice that prides itself on compassionate care, high-quality medicine, and strong team collaboration. Our ideal relief DVM is confident in general practice and comfortable seeing exotic pets and/or performing surgical procedures — though this can be discussed and tailored to your experience and preferences.
Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough examinations of animals to assess their health and diagnose any issues.
- Administer vaccinations and medications as required.
- Perform surgical procedures with precision while adhering to aseptic techniques.
- Provide urgent care for critically ill or injured animals.
- Utilize veterinary terminology effectively in communication with staff and pet owners.
- Educate pet owners on nutrition, hygiene, and preventive care for their animals.
- Handle and restrain animals safely during examinations and treatments.
- Maintain accurate medical records for all patients treated.
- Collaborate with veterinary technicians and support staff to ensure optimal patient care.
Experience
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from an accredited institution.
- Previous experience in a clinical setting is preferred, particularly in areas such as small animal care, exotics, and surgery.
- Strong skills in mixed and exotic animal handling and animal restraint are essential.
- Knowledge of veterinary terminology to communicate effectively within the team and with clients.
- Aseptic technique experience is highly desirable to ensure safe surgical practices.
Position Details:
Temporary relief role (2 weeks only)
Dates needed: August 4–8 & August 11–15
Hours and daily schedule: Flexible and negotiable
Compensation: Competitive and negotiable based on experience and availability
Ideal Candidate: Licensed DVM in the state of Michigan
Comfortable with exotics and/or soft tissue surgery (preferred, not required)
Positive, team-oriented, and compassionate
Reliable and able to adapt to a fast-paced, collaborative environment
