Summary

​​​​The Quality Assurance Specialist oversees and ensures the overall food safety and quality of all products and packaging in compliance with regulatory standards and company policies.​​​ 

Responsibilities

  • ​​Perform routine quality checks on raw ingredients, finished products, and packaging materials to ensure adherence to company standards and regulatory food safety requirements 
  • ​Collaborate with Operations to support the consistent delivery of high-quality, safe food products 
  • ​Identify and place questionable ingredients, packaging, or finished products on "Hold" status and promptly communicate findings to management 
  • ​Review and analyze Statistical Process Control (SPC) data to ensure compliance with customer specifications; complete Certificates of Analysis (COAs) for all outgoing products and escalate any issues to management 
  • ​Monitor and document daily microbiological test results, ensuring all outcomes meet established specifications 
  • ​Support Research & Development initiatives by updating nutritional information, assisting in testing protocols, and evaluating finished product quality 
  • ​Maintain comprehensive documentation for all ingredients and packaging materials, including specifications, nutritional data, kosher certifications, and related records 
  • ​Provide training and guidance to new and existing employees on quality assurance protocols and food safety standards 
  • ​ Serve as back-up SQF Practitioner in the absence of the Quality Assurance Manager 
  • ​Perform additional tasks as directed by supervisor 

Essential Functions

  • ​​​​​Involves clerical, analytical, and organizational skills  
  • ​​Attention to detail and ability to use measuring equipment required  
  • ​​Able to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw a valid conclusion   
  • ​​Must be able to properly prioritize work responsibilities within assigned work area  
  • ​​Able to read, analyze and follow directions  
  • ​​Must be able to speak, listen and effectively communicate with team members and actively participate in team meetings  
  • ​​Ability to apply formulas and mathematical concepts and to use them in a production setting  
  • ​​Must be highly motivated and able to work well independently and in a team environment  
  • ​​Must have a demonstrated record of professionalism, cooperation, and excellent communication    
  • ​​Involves regular computer systems/software operation and use of office equipment  
  • ​​Understand and adhere to:  
  • ​all food safety and quality protocol  
  • ​all procedures pertaining to allergen control  
  • ​all Good Manufacturing Policies (GMPs)  
  • ​​Must have full use of arms and legs, be able to stand on a continuous basis, and be able to climb stairs to access all areas of the plant and offices regularly   
  • ​​Lift up to 50 lbs. on an occasional basis   
  • ​​Push or pull with up to 50lbs. of force on an occasional basis  
  • ​​Stoop, kneel, climb or squat on an occasional basis  
  • ​​Possess manual dexterity and use hands to grip, pinch, handle, reach, or feel on a frequent basis   
  • ​​Stand on a continuous basis and walk on a frequent basis   
  • ​​Able to perform repetitive tasks up to 12 hours per day  
  • ​​Must be able to work in a scissor lift at elevated heights occasionally  
  • ​​Must be able to work shifts assigned by supervisor  
  • ​​Adherence to the company attendance policy is required, which includes expectations of punctuality and limited unapproved absences​​  

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent 
  • ​Working knowledge of the following computer software: Microsoft Office, including Excel  
  • ​Knowledge of HACCP, GMP, Bio-security and other food safety programs preferred  
  • ​Experience in Quality Assurance preferred  
  • ​Candidate needs strong knowledge of facility manufacturing operations, procedures, and product quality expectations  
  • ​Must have demonstrated good work habits and attendance​
