Responsibilities
The Engineering manager is responsible for managing day to day engineering/maintenance operations, including maintaining the guestrooms, and public space with particular attention according to the brand compliance. He/she is also responsible for maintaining regulatory requirements.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Position Requirements
- Minimum 3 years of progressive management experience in the hotel industry (preferred).
- Knowledge of carpentry, plumbing and electrical, required.
- Knowledge of hotel fire standards and procedures.
- Ability to work independently and exercise judgment to resolve personnel and production concerns that arise, with minimal supervision.
- Possess outstanding guest services skills and leadership capability.
Responsibilities
- Supervises the day-to-day operations of Engineering.
- Maintains and operates equipment at optimum effectiveness, efficiency, and safety.
- Assists in effectively planning, scheduling, and evaluating preventative maintenance programs.
- Ensures compliance with all Engineering departmental policies, standards, and procedures.
- Manages department's controllable expenses to achieve or exceed budgeted goals.
- Orders and maintains engineering supplies.
- Inspect and evaluate the physical condition of facilities to determine the type of work required.
- Knowledge of Safety Data Sheets, product labeling, proper storing, and handling of materials.
- Follows Occupational Health & Safety regulations.
- Actively participates in daily briefings and meetings.
- Actively participate in training and continuing education of Engineering staff.
- Assist in recruiting, interviewing, and hiring Associates; conduct performance appraisals, coach and counsel, progressive corrective action, motivate, develop, and train.
- Ensure Associates receive on-going training to understand their job tasks and guest expectations.
- Ensures on-going communication occurs in all areas of responsibility to create awareness of business objectives, awareness of expectations and recognition of exemplary performance.
- Provides feedback to associates based on observation of service behaviors.
- Supervises associate's ability to execute departmental and property emergency procedures.
- Perform any other reasonable duties as required by management.
- Communicates and works closely with the Area Director of Engineering.
Qualifications
DESIRED COMPETENCIES, WORK SKILLS, AND KNOWDLEGE REQUIRED

- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to communicate in the English language. Second language is a plus.
- Must be a team player.
- Able to work flexible schedules including holidays and weekends (as needed) and able to perform multiple tasks.
- Experience using software programs such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
- Able to work with and understand financial information and data (preferred), and basic arithmetic functions.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- High school diploma or GED; 2 years experience in engineering and maintenance or related professional area; experience in HVAC-R/electrical/plumbing.OR2-year degree from an accredited university in Building and Construction, Engineering, Mechanics, or related major; 2 years experience in leading engineering and maintenance or related professional area; technical training in HVAC-R/ electrical/plumbing.
QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED
- Previous facilities maintenance experience preferred
- Trade school preferred or related job experience preferred
