Job Description
Title: Merchandising Manager
Reports to: Regional Manager and Merchandising Program Manager
Job Purpose: The primary functions of the Merchandising Manager are to communicate and coordinate with merchandisers and store teams to execute day-to-day field needs. This includes recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and training a merchandising team to cover the stores in your area, setting Garden Center patios in the beginning of the season, building key displays at various stores throughout the season, merchandising annual product when it arrives in stores, offering assistance and direction for day-to-day functions at store level, and building professional and positive relationships with all levels of store level management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Recruit, interview, hire, and train merchandisers – this includes new hire paperwork and orientation/onboarding.
- Coordinate, communicate, and execute merchandising and table displays according to garden center layout guidelines.
- Provide leadership and training in merchandising and product care with both KGS Merchandising teams and store-level team members.
- Coordinate merchandising team schedules to follow anticipated delivery days and times.
- Ensure all stores receive adequate amounts of KGS Merchandising in-store presence.
- Communicate shipping details to KGS merchandising teams and store team members when it is received from the supplier.
- Provide suppliers with key information about individual stores that may impact product replenishment.
- Relay store requests to suppliers.
- Assist in addressing and resolving opportunities at store level as they arise.
- Documenting store visits- including the submission of photos and feedback on store visits.
- Complete any reports or information requested by suppliers, Retailer Corporate, or Kalamazoo Garden Solutions Home Office.
- Provide correction of errors and season feedback at the end of each year.
- Communicate and coordinate transportation needs for empty carts pickups as needed.
- Attend and contribute to various meetings and company trainings as needed.
- Position requires extensive travel, daily travel anticipated each week.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Individuals in this position must possess strong organizational, management, and leadership skills with a strong background in customer service. They must be able to work independently as well as in a team setting. Individuals in this position must also possess strong conflict resolution and relationship-building skills.
Position Information and Expectations:
This position is full-time, based on 40 hours per week with benefits offered. During peak times, this position will require extended hours, including frequent weekends and some Holidays.
The position does allow flexible schedule options, so the ability to self-determine in-store time and prioritize responsibilities accordingly is necessary.
This position will require the regular use of a smartphone for clocking in and out, paychecks are issued weekly on Thursday and pay options are Direct Deposit or a company-issued pay card.
This position will also require reliable transportation within a large (11-16 store) area with fuel reimbursement, monthly car allowance, and monthly phone allowance.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma.
- 1-3 years’ experience in similar position desired, but not required.
- You must have a Smart Phone and the ability to Direct Deposit

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $42,500.00 - $45,000.00 per year
