The Custodial Building Head is relied on to set an example for other staff at their designated site, to assist the supervisor in the site-specific staffing, training, and procedures, and to provide after hours support for programs. They must be a self-starter, be able to problem solve and respond appropriately in different situations, and they must be able to communicate effectively with students, staff, and the community.

This is a full-time, year-round position with a competitive starting wage of $19.46/hr.

Job Responsibilities:

• Leads staff in providing custodial services in designated areas under the direction of Custodial Supervisor.
• Assists in the coordination of building access and security. Provides support to after-hours programs.
• Provides input to Custodial Supervisor on staffing, training, and custodial processes.
• Sweeps, mops, and polishes in rooms and halls.
• Dusts and/or polishes furniture, blinds and equipment.
• Cleans restrooms and fills dispensers.
• Vacuums, spot cleans and/or shampoos rugs, carpets, and furniture using commercial vacuum cleaners and shampooing equipment.
• Reports malfunctions of bathroom fixtures, light fixtures and/or damages to room and hall furnishings to supervisor.
• Stocks area with appropriate supplies.
• Locks and unlocks doors as directed.
• Moves furniture, equipment or fixtures as required.
• Works in unison with school and Facilities Services staff. Actively promotes teamwork.
• May shovel and remove snow and ice from designated areas such as sidewalks, entryways and roofs as required.
• May replace light bulbs.
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High School diploma or equivalent; AND,
• Custodial operations experience in commercial or institutional facilities.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in leading and monitoring the work of custodial staff.

Physical Demands:

• Ability to stand on feet for extended periods of time, stoop, bend, lift and carry items up to 40 pounds.
• This is a Heavy Duty job, according to the , U.S. Department of Labor and Industry. Heavy Duty involves exertion of up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25-50 pounds frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds continuously to move objects.
