What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Specialist, Adult Literacy Projects position at Kankakee Community College?

Coordinate, develop, implement, and monitor the volunteer-based literacy tutoring program and early literacy program: student and volunteer recruitment, retention and assessment related grants, student supportive services, and outreach.  Works under the umbrella of the Adult Education department and offers support as needed, included but not limited to testing, or widespread support. Also participates in statewide professional development.A. Support the needs of volunteers and develop learning opportunities to meet their needs. Design and facilitation of ongoing professional development and coaching to volunteers, includes travel.

B. Maintain records related to volunteers and student recruitment, retention, and assessment.

C. Analyze, interpret, and communicate data to grant funding agencies accurately and timely.

D. Facilitate orientations and training of volunteers, with includes in-district travel.

E. Select off-campus locations and coordinate off-site tutoring, which includes in-district travel.

F. Community outreach. Attends meetings with community partners in Kankakee and Iroquois counties. Deliver presentations to a variety of audiences (grant funded agencies, local agencies, and recruitment events).

G. Research, prepare, and administer literacy grant projects and reports.

H. Participation in budget preparation, management, and evaluation to assure compliance with grant guidelines and meet grant objectives.

I. Coordinate volunteer and learner recognition events and outreach.

J. Evaluate and select curriculum for literacy learners and books for the early literacy program, maintain supplies for program. A. Bachelor's degree with knowledge of specialized principles or techniques normally obtained through a four-year college/university academic program or equivalent in-depth specialized training directly related to the type of work being performed is required.

B. At least three to seven years of related work experience preferred.

C. Computer experience using Microsoft Office or comparable applications required. Able to use the telephone, voicemail, and email; able to manage files and perform basic functions with the current operating system; able to create, format, edit documents and spreadsheets; able to merge documents; able to create and use labels with envelopes; able to create, format, and edit tables, graphs, and charts. Certification as Microsoft Office Specialist in appropriate applications or demonstrated equivalent skills required.

D. Excellent oral and written communication skills required.

E. Demonstrated proficiency in English required.

F. Ability to communicate in other languages desirable.Annualized pay range: Min. $43,964.81; 1st quartile $49,460.41; Mid. $54,956.01
