Summary

The Dean of Career and Technical Education is responsible for the sound management and strategic oversight of the departments within the division. This position collaborates with industry professionals, government entities, educational institutions, and other personnel to create strategic partnerships in support of the institution’s strategic plan and program sustainability.

Position Description

  • Provide academic, workforce, and administrative leadership for Career and Technical Education, Adult and Continuing Education, and Workforce Innovation, with awareness of trends, challenges, and workforce needs in community college education.
  • Lead, manage, and ensure the quality, relevance, and continuous improvement of academic and workforce programs, including oversight of faculty, staff, instructional delivery, and student success outcomes.
  • Lead strategic planning, program evaluation, and assessment efforts within the division, including enrollment analysis, workforce outcomes, program review, and data-informed decision-making to support program growth and sustainability.
  • Ensure programs align with industry standards, labor market needs, licensure and certification requirements, programmatic accreditation expectations, and applicable state and federal guidelines.
  • Provide oversight for specialized instructional facilities, laboratories, equipment, instructional technology, and safety practices, including collaboration on equipment lifecycle planning and modernization.
  • Lead the evaluation, research, and initiation of new programs and credentials, and make recommendations related to program modification, teach-out, suspension, or discontinuation in accordance with college processes.
  • Oversee the development and management of division budgets, including staffing, instructional resources, equipment, grants, and externally funded workforce initiatives, in collaboration with appropriate college personnel.
  • Initiate, develop, and manage grants and funded projects, ensuring alignment with institutional priorities and compliance requirements.
  • Develop and maintain internal and external partnerships with faculty, staff, employers, workforce agencies, secondary and postsecondary institutions, and community organizations to support recruitment, retention, work-based learning, and employment pathways.
  • Collaborate with Marketing and Institutional Image, Institutional Effectiveness, Student Services, and other divisions to support recruitment, retention, completion, and post-completion success.
  • Ensure compliance with the college mission, policies, accreditation standards, and applicable state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Participate in college-wide planning, governance, and decision-making processes and provide regular updates to the Vice President of Academic Affairs.
  • Supervise, support, and evaluate full- and part-time faculty and staff; promote professional development; and foster effective teaching, learning, and assessment practices.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Demonstrated ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in education, Leadership, Technical Education, or closely related field.
  • Four (4) years of experience in an educational setting teaching, training, and/or working directly with students.
  • Four (4) years of administrative experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Seven (7) or more years of experience in an educational setting teaching, training and/or experience working directly with students.
  • Collegiate teaching experience, with preference to instruction in community colleges and especially in areas in Career and Technical Education.
  • Experience in higher education; knowledge of college systems, particularly two-year colleges.
  • Commitment to and ability to work with a multi-cultural student and faculty population.
  • Experience with developing and evaluating assessment strategies.
  • Experience developing successful partnerships with Business & Industry to meet workforce needs.
  • Experience with successful apprenticeship models.
  • Experience in successful grant writing.

WORK SCHEDULE

40 hours per week, during regular hours of Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm. Must be able to work a variable schedule/hour to meet operational needs. May require evening and weekend hours.
