Job Description: Standardized Patients (SP’s) simulate individuals in various medical, behavioral, and emotional scenarios. SP’s will often be physically examined by students and faculty as part of the medical students learning experience. Each scenario or patient case is designed to meet the needs of the curriculum and associated learning objectives and SP’s will be trained on the scenarios. Reports to: Standardized Patient Coordinator and Director of Simulation Classification: Staff, Temporary (non-benefit eligible) Essential Duties Simulate individuals in both clinical and non-clinical scenarios for teaching and/or assessment activities Simulate all aspects of a scripted scenario in a standardized accurate realistic manner Participate as the patient having a physical examination for students to practice their skills; this may include recalling and/or recreating the medical history, personality, emotional structure and response pattern of an actual patient Provide constructive feedback to learners following a template. Complete detailed assessment tools accurately, consistently, and as trained by Standardized Patient Educator Accept on-going constructive feedback regarding performance from the Standardized Patient Educator and Simulation Center Director and incorporating changes as needed Communicate with students in a straightforward and positive way Adapt to quick changes and work in a dynamic environment Maintain confidentiality with all students, cases, training materials, and assessment data Participate in sessions/activities that will be videoed and reviewed by faculty and simulation center staff. Other duties as assigned This job description is not intended to be all inclusive and the employee will also perform other reasonably related duties as assigned by KHSU Simulation Team. Education: High School Diploma Qualifications: Possible acting experience, but not required Ability to read and memorize lines Demonstrate ability and willingness to work cooperatively and professionally with students, faculty and administrators Demonstrate ability to be instructed and coached by a Standardized Patient Educator Ability to consistently replicate a case scenario in a standardized, accurate, and reliable manner Ability to accurately and convincingly maintain a specified character with recall of case information as trained Able to be flexible regarding scheduling and assignments. Some availability Monday - Friday Able to use a computer for email, communication and scheduling. Able to complete a computerized survey to score student behavior Excellent communication skills Bilingual is a plus.
