Position Summary
Under the general direction of the Retail Coordinator, and in concert with the goals and objectives of the organization, the Sales Associate will serve as a first point of contact for customers who visit the Capitol Store in the Kansas State Capitol. The Sales Associate will provide good customer service; demonstrate product knowledge; complete sales through TAM (The Assistant Manager) electronic retail software; restock, arranges and display products, and answer inquiries. Beginning pay is $11.00/hour with limited benefits including annual leave, sick leave, and a 403(b) matching tax advantage retirement savings program. This position works on a three-week rotational schedule; there are three weekly schedules (shift A, B, C then repeat) that the employee rotates through including Saturday shifts. All working hours are between 8:00am and 5:30pm.
Duties and Responsibilities
· Handle all in-store transactions, including sales, returns, adjustments and exchanges, with demonstrated ability to use the TAM retail software system
· Perform opening, closing and cash handling procedures as required, including bank deposits and change orders
· Greet customers as they walk in the store and offer assistance as needed
· Handle all customer service inquiries in the store, via telephone, and email
· Demonstrate knowledge of store products and their features, uses and benefits
· Stock shelves from stockroom and put away received inventory
· Under the direction of the Retail Coordinator, arrange and place merchandise and keep the store clean and neat
· Inform the Retail Coordinator of any customer complaints or outstanding requests for merchandise
· Be aware of merchandise security measures and call for a backup associate when needed
· Work with public for crowd control, facility protection, and information
· Maintain good working relationships with other store employees, volunteers and any other KSHS or Foundation employees with whom interaction is required
· Maintain a professional appearance and a positive and enthusiastic attitude when interacting with customers, members, visitors, KSHS or Foundation employees or any members of the general public
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma and at least one year of similar or related experience is required. Excellent organizational, written, oral and interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team are essential. Problem solving, decision-making and technical skills are also required. Must be personable and comfortable working with customers on a one-on-one basis. Must be able to lift 30 lbs., climb step stools, and stand for long periods of time to perform the daily duties of this position.
