Position: Safety Services Coordinator
Position Summary:
Formed in 1928, Kansas Municipal Utilities (KMU) is a statewide association representing Kansas cities and other public and not-for-profit agencies involved in the ownership and operation of municipal utilities. KMU is a growing organization which partners with communities to enhance their workforce culture through training and educational programs. KMU employees enjoy working with people to make the safety and technical programs come alive through experiential based learning.
The primary purpose of this position is to assist KMU members with their environmental, health, and safety short-term needs and long-term compliance and goals through training and workforce development. Training is delivered through interactive presentation and practical application on technical, environmental, health and safety programs. In addition, this position performs regular safety audits and consultation for our members. Position requires regular travel to assigned city organizations, with occasional overnight travel required.
Essential Functions:
The individual in this position performs the duties and responsibilities which may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Assess relevant training needs for the employees of municipal utilities.
- Research, designs, develops, implements, and coordinates the delivery of safety training.
- Coordinate assigned workshops.
- Develop and deliver site specific safety and technical training sessions according to community need and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Develop and maintain a monthly schedule to include delivery of assigned services.
- Maintain technical proficiency and knowledge of federal and state safety laws and regulations.
- Create and submit reports as required.
- Create and submit an employee training schedule as required.
- Performs related work as required or assigned.
Required Abilities:
- Understands adult learning concepts for the development and delivery of training.
- Thorough knowledge of safety regulations and standards, including but not limited to OSHA.
- Ability to develop and deliver safety and health training programs.
- Ability to communicate effectively in written and oral communications, including making presentations to groups.
- Ability to maintain reliability and sound professional judgment.
- Knowledge and use of MS Office products, especially Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
