Part Time College Admissions Advisor

Kaplan Educational Group
Newport, CA Part Time
POSTED ON 1/28/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 7/26/2026

Company Description

At Kaplan Educational Group, we prioritize our students’ long-term health, happiness, and financial independence. Our focus is on providing solutions, strategies, and guidance to help students identify and develop their passions, craft compelling stories, and demonstrate their value to colleges for successful admissions.

Role Description

This is a part-time role as a College Admissions Advisor at Kaplan Educational Group located in Newport Beach, CA, with flexibility for some remote work. The advisor will:

  1. Work one-on-one with students from Orange County and elsewhere in the world.
  2. Help high school students identify their academic and career interests.
  3. Provide guidance on all aspects of the college application process, including school selection, essay writing, and time management. We will train on all job functions.
  4. Brainstorm, outline, and revise college application essays in writing workshop sessions.
  5. Assist students with filling out application forms.
  6. Identify colleges that are great fits for their goals and preferences.

What We Believe Makes a Great Advisor:

  1. Experience applying to and earning admission to college. Relatability is critical for this position. Advisors who have gone through this process are naturally primed to help others do the same.
  2. Ability to connect with high school students and parents alike. Applying to college is stressful for the entire family. Recognizing student and parent concerns makes for a strong relationship with the entire family and a smoother process.
  3. Positivity. Applying to college can be tough, but staying positive and realistic helps. Even with 5% acceptance rates, we want to encourage our students to try their best but not take denials personally.
  4. Excellent writing skills and strong attention to detail. College essays are how students make their case for admission at highly selective colleges. The bulk of our efforts are spent helping students craft persuasive and authentic application essays that highlight their perspective.
  5. Writing-intensive or teaching backgrounds are beneficial but not required. A college essay is both a marketing piece and an argument and experience in marketing, law, teaching or tutoring.
  6. Flexibility with scheduling. We work with students primarily after school and on the weekends. While you will be able to set your schedule, it will need to be accessible for students.

Logistics:

  1. We work with students at our office in Newport Beach, CA (near John Wayne Airport). We are prioritizing candidates able to work at our office at least two days per week (remote work is OK, too).

Compensation:

  1. $60-$65 per hour DOE.

We will train advisors to be effective mentors for their students. We provide excellent mentorship for our advisors so they feel supported in their roles. Our company is growing rapidly and we are looking to build a team of committed advisors that can grow in their roles as we grow as an organization.

Salary : $60 - $65
